Anybody out there have a Gauntlet in a non dedicated cab? I'm working on getting one running in a Sega Blast City cab and am looking for tips.

So far I've wired in a separate power supply as the Blast doesn't have -5v, and I've got it up and running. I've set the dip switches for 8 way joysticks and 'normally open' switches. The joystick is working, but the buttons aren't. The sound is also messed up.

Looking at the wiring diagrams, it looks like I need to wire the P1 and P2 buttons to the 'gun 1' connector and wire the stereo audio. My cabinet has an amp and stereo speakers with RCA connectors, so it shouldn't be too hard as long as my thinking is right.

Has anyone else put a Vegas board set in a JAMMA cab? Any info would be helpful.

its just jamma, nothing connects to the other connectors, everything can be done via the jamma connector, just select 8way joysticks.

I second this. What are your DIP switch settings?

Throwing the 8-way dip switch will get you 8 ways that work but the buttons will not as they are routed on bizarre wires. P1 and P2 controls go here (circled).

On my system I left all of the wiring original from the board to the funky L adapter where the wires mate with the control panel harness. I set the control panel harness aside and created a small adapter and replacement control panel harness that allows p1 and p2 to be used by both Jamma games using the standard wiring AND the funky GL wiring.

Works perfectly for me!

Regarding the sound, I believe GL is a true stereo sound and I don't think that Jamma allows for this which is why you're probably getting odd sound results.

For what it's worth I currently have mine setup with 8-ways and a JAMMA harness only and both player 1 and 2 sticks and buttons work just fine.

Messed around some more and with dip switch U2 #1 on and all others off I get the joysticks and buttons working properly off the JAMMA harness and medium res.

I tried to custom wire the stereo output, but that didn't work. I also tried the regular JAMMA audio and it's still messed up. I've got the software audio setup as mono, but the speaker test still displays the words 'left' and 'right' and I can only hear a distorted 'right'.

So close. I wonder if it's my wiring hack to use the cabinets joystick and buttons, but a separate power supply. The sound chip I'm using came from a parts board I've had sitting around for a while as well. The sound hardware tests pass, so I'm stumped for the moment.

Dang, where were you a year ago when I needed you? :) I went through an enormous hassle re-routing those signals because the documentation didn't document any of it.

Documentation is flat out wrong on the dip switch to control the button routing...

I'm what they call a newbie to the KLOV forums :) - You are right though I have seen some glaring mistakes in the manuals as well.

i was gonna say, i am pretty sure i played this game just fine on my workbench using the jamma harness.. yes, the audio was mono, but it worked fine...

however, the game plays much better with 49way joysticks.

That's odd -- I didn't notice any difference at all when I switched from 49 to 8 way and I was specifically looking for just that. That may be a reflection on your 8 way joystick rather than the change from 49 to 8.
