Gauntlet Legends board set with upgrade Roms and compact flash for Dark Legacy.
With the Legends hard drive and Roms my numbered led (3) on the cpu gets to 6 indicating a hard drive error. Led 1 on the I/o will come on for a flash then turns off indicating the boot ROM is not booting. Hard drive is still spinning for a bit then stops and led 2 turns off indicating no hard drive activity.

So

Change out the hard drive and Roms with compact flash and dark legacy upgrade.
Same issues. Get to 6 and no boot led. No led 2 on the CPU indicating no compact flash activity.

Voltages test good, everything looks to be hooked up properly.
All connections between boards have been cleaned off with brasso and alcohol. Everything is in tight. Anything that can be reseated has been. Changed out the socket for the boot ROM and same result.

Update on Gauntlet Dark Legacy
Removed one of the roms, which is apparently an extra for some reason. Thanks to a member in the Facebook repair group for pointing that out.
The boot ROM now fires up. However still not getting a signal to the monitor and the green LED for hard drive activity is off. Getting the LED code flashing 01210as1c if that means anything to anyone.

Was the board working for you at one time and stopped working? I would check the jumpers on the board. I had an issue with distortion on my board until I changed one of the jumpers on the board. I don't, off the top of my head, know the jumper settings but I can take a picture tomorrow. Im not to familiar with these boards though.

Also if you are using a standard monitor, you need to change a dip switch setting.

IOASIC -(Scrolls through letters I,O,A,S,I,C) - Wrong Security Chip installed with working Boot rom and Harddrive

The legends hard drive died so I figured replace it with the upgrade. There is a flat screen installed,it was in the game when I got it. Has a small red conversion board. I put in another game to confirm that was no the issue.

Really? I'm using the compact flash with boot ROM and security chip from arcade services
Is there any documentation I can send to him?

Take a picture of the security chip you have installed and ask him if it's the correct one for your board.

Picture of your current setup with the new chips installed would be good.
My guess is that you replaced the sound rom with the security chip you got from Mike. The chip with the barcode sticker on it is the security chip (PIC), the other eprom is the sound eprom and stays in place. The reason you had two eproms on the middle board (boot rom section ) was legends had updates that came out and used that expansion slot . Dark legacy only has the need for the one boot eprom. (if you get the newest boot eprom for Legends you will only need one boot eprom as well in case you decide to switch back to legends)

I am trying to follow, forgive me, It WAS a Legends, correct? the Original Drive died, so you bought a CF dark legacy hard drive to upgrade?
The New Drive came with a Sound Chip, PIC Chip, and Hard drive correct???

Legends used Part Number 322403051
Dark Legacy Used Part Number • A-23622 pic chip

The Security chip needs to be in U37 and properly inserted.

Boot EEPROM top Socket, nothing in the lower, Sound only spot it can go on the sound board. (Top of the Midway CPU?)

PIC chip right side of the CPU, Looks right. But that error your getting IS from the wrong PIC installed.

Originally a legends. When the hard drive died I got the upgrade kit from arcade services. Came with compact flash, security ROM and u37 ROM

http://www.arcade-service.com/parts/flash-cards/

Directions said the u37 would go in u18. I sent him an email asking what was up and his response was he testing everything and the issue is on my end.
Picture below is how it is set up with the upgrade kit

no Darren U18 is the correct slot, the other slot is the expansion slot.
You have the chips all correct, the only things it could be at this point:
1. You have at some point fried the security PIC and now have it installed correctly OR one of the legs is bent under the chip and not making contact
2. Mike sent you the wrong PIC
3. there is corrosion in the PIC socket

Everything went in exactly as his instructions explained and how they look in the picture now
His email says everything was tested and I installed something wrong. I've done his ki and 2 ki2 kits. One of the ki2 kits didn't work by the time I actually installed it but it was too late after I ordered it to do anything about it. The other 2 worked fine.
I replaced the socket because I thought that was the issue.

Are the files available online? I'll get a friend to burn them.

If your sure you never installed the PIC backwards at any point then its either a wrong PIC or a bad one. The issue for Mike is that he gets people ALL the time that install stuff wrong and then claim they didn't, then there's the 2% chance that he actually messed up, so he has to decide which one it is. Maybe you can ask him if you can return the kit and pay shipping both ways to have it tested and a new kit sent out? Others here can test it as well, I can test it and replace the chip if its fried. You will not be able to find someone who can burn you a new one though, that chip is read protected to keep people from copying it which is why its referred to as the security chip. I sold these same kits for years and trust me, I tested every kit that went out and people still would claim they didn't work every once in awhile, it was very frustrating.
What socket did you replace? The one on the Vegas board or the KI board? Just checking because that could be your issue on the vegas board.

Replaced the socket on the Vegas board. I'm not saying he didn't test it but I'm saying I didn't put it in backwards or crush any legs. I'll try to email him again. He did give me his phone number but I only get to work on anything after everyone in the house is in bed. I'll give him a call tomorrow.

One other guy on Facebook is suggesting it is probably my board and wants me to send it to him to check. But parts are basically obsolete so it would just be a board check and no repair.

So you yourself replaced a socket on the vegas board? Have you ever done this before? Not knowing you or your skill set My money would be on the socket you replaced, but like I said I don't know how skilled you are at doing that, the solder on these boards is really old and removing sockets from them is really a pain in the ass (Ive done it several times) theres a chance you could have damaged the board.
In order to troubleshoot you are going to have to meter out each pin and make sure its making a connection to the PCB and its traces, if you used a heated solder sucker type you could have broken a trace from that connects to one the pad holes.

But yet again, I have no idea your skill level but that's a start.

Ryandimx, Philly (ish) is not to far from East Windsor. I have both Legends and Dark Legacy ( going to sell one soon) shoot me a pm and we can figure out a day you can swing by. I do work a hectic schedule but I'm sure we can work it out.

OK I was wrong. Hard to see when in a cab, at the angle I was in. I took off the back nad took these photos.

And I bought my PIC from ToplessZ
