Anyone have the roms needed to convert a Vegas 777 board? I have a War board that im going to convert since I dont have a joystick to play it. I have a eprom programmer, I just need the binarys for the roms.

I did the same thing recently. Note that the War boards I ended up with are the 'Durango' boardset. These will not run Gauntlet Legends, but will run Dark Legacy.

The files for the boot rom and sound rom are in MAME. You'll probably have to buy the security ROM from arcadecup or toplessz.

A friend pointed out to me that the CRC for the sound ROMS on all the Vegas based games have the same checksum. I left the War sound chip in, burned a boot ROM from the MAME file and bought a security chip and everything works as Dark Legacy.

I'm waiting on a different Compactflash card to replace the HD, as the Transcend card I picked up didn't work.

Try a 16gb Kingston 133x card. I got one of these to work on GL w/o issues and then expanded the GDL image onto it and it fit. Haven't actually upgraded my GL -> GDL yet to test it though.

Yeah I found the boot and sound rom in the mame files. Still need the bin for the security chip tho. My programmer can handle PIC16C57C which the security chips are burned to.

Also, try the kingston cards tho. Those were all I was using for my megatouch CF conversions. I got a local computer place that sells them pretty cheap.

Someone should make a post or website to contain all the information about these boards in one place. There are different video cards as well as the I/O boards. Some games use a small interface board between the controls and I/O boards, but the two Gauntlet games do not.

I bought a retail Voodoo 2 card because I've seen where people got them to work with Gauntlet Legends, but it didn't work with my Dark Legacy. It booted to the test menu with an error message that the test switch was stuck. I swapped in a real video board and it worked. I'm guessing it was due to no security chip on the consumer video card. Legends must not care, but Dark Legacy does.

DL still needs a security chip. If you look at the Vegas.c file from mame, it shows that there was different versions of the vegas set. I just dont get why you can go from legends to dark legacy but cant go from a dark legacy back to a legends. Doesnt matter too much to me tho. I picked up the board set CHEAP cause it wasnt working...aka the guy who tested it didnt know that it needed -5v. If I had a joystick, id prob play war lol

I've got an 8GB Maxell on the way. I'll post my results.

So my machine started its life as a Legends but was converted to a dark legacy, can I just burn a new boot rom and make a new legends drive and be good to go?

I would assume so. Atari did release an update kit to change from GL > GDL. All that was in the kit was a boot rom, security chip, and a hard drive.

4gb is all you need for Dark Legacy

I've had people tell me that it requires more than a 4gb drive.

If you said 4GB is all you need for GL then I'd agree with you.

I know it's possible because that's what I use, I believe it's also what Chad @ ArcadeCup uses for his as well as his Flash Module versions. Most times, the size of the uncompressed image doesn't necessarily mean that the data runs all the way to the end of it. For example, you can get away with using a 2gb for a Rush the Rock and not have any issues even though the image is larger.

I don't see how that's possible; the uncompressed image is much larger than that.

So what are you using for a CF card?

4gb SanDisk Ultra rated @ 30mb/s

That's wild. I've had 2 people tell me that Sandisk didn't work for them, although they were talking about it re: GL.
