I have never dealt with 49 ways but would like to install them now that I got gauntlet dark legacy. Bought a complete jamma harness but no connector to connect the 2 harnesses together. Im only going to do 2 players but have no idea on the pinouts on this joystick. Does the up/down/left/right , button 1/2/3/4 , +5v and 2 ground lines goto the 49way? and if so what order. I could really use some help as im getting pretty frustrated with these things. Really don't want to use 8 ways

Did you get the I-40 interface pcb? I think you can connect 2 49 ways directly to the vegas board, but you should confirm it before you try.. Normally all 4 connect to the I-40 first.

didnt think the I-40 interface pcb was required. Seems as the p3 and p4 plug right into the board. but if I can plug p1 and p2 directly into the vegas board some one let me know where to plug these in at and I will forever be in your debt

You want my advice?

Don't put 49 ways in, put 8's in.

I had 49 ways on my GL and ended up swapping them out for 8 ways and turned it into a multi-game cabinet (which it shares with NBA Jam boards).

There's little to no difference in the feel or precision of 49 way to good 8 ways. I don't regret for a second going that direction and I suspect you won't either.

And you don't need an interface board for GL/GDL for the joysticks.

When I was playing Gauntlet DL I had 8-ways, and I could not stand it. Then I swapped the board to a different cab with different 8-ways, and it was 100% better. If you have any spares, you might try a different set of sticks. Some 'feel' better with the game, ones that register the diagonal movement really easily.

I think the 49s require a special harness.

Yeah, different control panel harnesses for the 8 ways and 49 ways. But the wires up to the 'L' connector are the same; it's only what comes after that has to change.

I went directly from 49 ways to 8 ways and am a picky bastard and I couldn't tell a difference. I'm entirely happy with my 8 ways.

what type of 8 ways are you using? I had it in one of my cabs running 8 ways that I think were happ competitions just so my little brother could play it and it just seemed kinda hard to throw diagonal and I figured the 49 ways would make it easier. I can't tell what your trying to show in that picture, a little to small.

Pretty sure they were Eurovision ILs but I can confirm tomorrow if you're interested. There are no issues going diagonal with these, they're nice sticks.
