Gauntlet Legends w/ 8-way Joystick

Yes, I know there are a bunch of topics about this, but it seems that my specific questions aren't answered in any of them.

A friend of a co-worker has a Gauntlet Legends boardset and hard drive along with a Dark Legacy upgrade for sale for $75. It's all in working condition; played it and tested it myself in one of his cabinets. However, I only have my POS JAMMA cabinet with two 8-way joysticks to play it on. I love both games, but before I buy it to use it, my questions are:

1. Will it play horribly with 8-way sticks? And, if so, how bad; just a little hard to control or totally unplayable?

2. I know the boardset has a dip setting for 8-way joysticks. Is it as easy as flipping the dip to 8-way and then hooking up the board and playing?

Thanks.

try it and report back. it should work. You lose the fine movement. I barely notice the difference with blitz 2000. A really good player will notice it...

You should buy it for $75. if you don't like it, you can sell it for 2x that no problem.

Finding the 49 way sticks is easy. The I40 interface pcb might be a little more effort, but not much..

I'll give it a whirl and post my results. It's true; for $75, I can't go wrong. Thanks.

Missed this from back when it was first posted.

There is no I40 board for GL -- it doesn't need or use it.

8 way sticks on GL play great; I couldn't tell a difference when I switched from 49 way optical sticks.
