Gauntlet Legacy 4-player no sound Wrestlefest

Didn't want to make a new thread so...

Ok so my Gauntlet Dark Legacy is apparently 8 way stick w/ standard resolution monitor. Anyway i connected my Wrestlefest & i get picture not that clear & can play but i can barely hear the sound & lots of distortion all around.

I hook up my other PCB, SF2 Hyper Fighting & it works just fine...

I hooked up my Wrestlefest on my converted Neo Geo & picture seem a little longer but everything else works great & the sound too!

I hooked up my Wrestlefest on my Atomiswave & picture seem a little stretch/sound is working fine.

So any idea why the sound is not working on the Gauntlet Legacy cab? Is it the Wrestlefest PCB?

First thing I would do is switch the right direction with another direction on player 4, UP for example. Does 4P now move right when the joy is moved up?

I tried that in test mode controls..it will not work & seem like the other directions wont work once i tried switching them.

So i ended up removing all the Quick Disconnects & then try each one, now for some reason the down dont work but the right does....

Any ideas?

I take it you're using 8-way joysticks?

there's some different causes for this. you could have like an intermittent ground, could just be a broken wire between the two switches that are acting weird (the down and the right) and you got different results when you changed switches because you had to move the wire around.

whenever I'm trying to diagnose such a thing, I'll either jumper the ground from a known working switch to the one that's acting up or outright just touch the good ground wire to the "bad" switch and have the input wire hooked to the NC. see if it lights up in your switch test.

considering it's a Player 4 issue, it won't be with any of the JAMMA wiring, cause I've seen the harnesses in Midway cabs start fucking up (my Killer Instinct I have to have the wires bent a certain way, or else I lose quick punch or the right direction lol and in my MK4 cab I had to replace all the video pins/wires). your next place to look then would be in the Player 4 harness.

considering how your problem moved though, I'm leaning more towards it being a broken ground wire issue.

So after re-arranging my machine in the garage, i boot it up, now it works fine...What the hell....

Anyway, how can you tell if its 49-way?

It sounds like you have 8-ways. 49 way sticks have one large ribbon cable for the entire joystick. The 8-way sticks will have quick disconnects for each individual cherry switch.

Likely cause is an ungrounded switch. It is possible it could be a broken wire on the wiring harness. Could also be a worn cherry switch that is only 'clicking' every couple of movements. Could also be a joystick that is worn or incorrectly assembled.

If you have an alligator clip - try shorting the switch closed and see if it stays closed. If it does - your wiring is fine, and it is probably the joystick (something mechanical). Otherwise, it is probably something in the wiring.

I haven't mucked around with the innerds of my Gauntlet that much, but isn't the sound coming from the connector on the motherboard rather than the JAMMA harness. If that is the case then Wrestlefest, if it adheres to the JAMMA standard will be trying to put the sound out the edge connector and there will be nothing to pick it up.
