I have a small glitch with my Gauntlet game. I am pretty sure the board is fine, and it is with a chip. It works great and looks great until you grab your first exit, doesn't matter what exit you take on level 1. once you do and you advance to the next level all players don't show up and then everything skips around. Thanks to fellow KLOV'r Keith for helping me run the ROM set up I get this message ROM at 38000 error U L 06B8. Has anyone dealt with this before? Any advice would be great!

I took a photo of what the screen looks like once it "locks up".

bad rom chip. I have had this and had to reprogram a eprom. I cant tell you what one it was as this was years ago. Video and sprite issues are usualy damaged rom. Have you re-set all the proms? I know, but you have to ask.

Ill chime in since I looked at this game today... we do know that the eprom located at 1M (I believe?) has a broken leg, and another chip (not one of character roms) has dirty legs. Just trying to figure out if any other chips are bad (or at least a likely culprit), and what the error message is pointing to.

I am also suspecting a power supply issue because I cant get a -5v reading. But the game is powering up and getting sound so

The eprom with the broken leg ought to be replaced...Not good to have ROMS on a board with missing legs. As to what type of ROM you need...ask channelmanic...he's good with chips.

As for dirty ROMS...you can clean those with a chip cleaner like DEOXIT DN5 connector cleaner. (The DEOXIT GN5 GOLD is the connector conditioner.) Or you can try some rubbing alcohol and a soft tooth bursh...BUT be very gentle...you don't want to bend or break any of those ROM legs.

As for voltage...double check power lines to the board....game boards do odd things when they do not get enough power.

I havent had time to look yet, but does anyone know anything about a slapstick mod for this? And will this potentially fix his board? Just glancing over it without anything else in front of me at the moment, it looks like a couple of jumpers and a couple of roms swaps. Is it any more complex?

OK, I will be doing the "slapstick" mod on his board found here:

http://www.ionpool.net/arcade/gauntlet/hacks/slapstic.html

Doesn't seem very clear on which rom is called the "slapstick", can anyone point me in the right direction?

The slapstick is the 20pin in .3 width towards the top left with an Atari part number ending in 104 or 106 depending if you have a G1 or G2. I forget what location it is :) You will also need a new 10A as described in the directions. That slapstick mod is usually done in conjunction with a dual boot mod. Do note, that after you do the slapstick mod, you still get an error on boot, but the game play is fine. That is normal.

Look on ionpool. It mods the board to play G1 & G2 at the flock of a switch.
