I rebuilt a monitor chassis for someone who had a very dark picture that was mostly red. When I got it I found the colors to be way too bright and a cold solder joint on the G2 to the neckboard. Fixed it, and totally recapped it. Tested it and had a great picture.

Sent it back and he installed it and got the same picture.

Now, before we do any troubleshooting with the monitor, does GDL use a video card that could be the problem? And if so, is it a standard video card that can be replaced, or is it special?

Thanks....

I believe it used a quantum3d card, from 3dfx. not sure how easily replaceable it is though. quantum3d were the high end model of 3dfx voodoo cards.

EDIT: ok let me rephrase that. I'm not sure how easy it would be to find a replacement. swapping it out is probably a piece of cake.

The vegas board can be switched from low to med res with dipswitch settings, although I have found that it still puts out a higher end signal that most older monitors that are standard res cant pick up well.
The video card is an obsidian3d card, theres a guy on ebay that is selling 100 of them for like 50 bucks each.

Well, the game has a K7500 in it, and I'd assume it worked fine at some point, but I'm not sure. I'll let the guy know about the Ebay thing. Got a link?

He says he has a couple other boardsets, so he's going to try another to see if it works better.

He's a member here, so if he needs a video card, I'll direct him here....

I am the customer "modessitt" is talking about. I was going to replace the complete game boad set with a known working DL set.

I got stuck with some screws I can not remove... It looks like I need to remove the backing plate to get it out.

in the short term I replaced the video card only and it made no change.

I think my next step is to attach my NIB Jrok board to the monitor to see how it looks.

The more I mess with games / monitors the more i like "Pinball"!

Fun Fun,

Fun Fun,

Your monitor is a medium-res. not sure that the Jrok board has that ability.

And does the DL setup have a VGA output? if so, connect a computer monitor, or flip the video card dip switches to standard-res and try it with a regular monitor.

Unless the tube is the issue.....

Hmm. The chassis looked fine connected here:

Was this game EVER working okay? Or did you buy it with this issue?

Know anyone nearby that has a tube rejuvenator so they can check the tube?

It was never working. I picked it up with this issue.

I will try and track one down. I have a g07 tube that I need to try to rejuvenate as well.
