Recently I fired up the game and noticed that the game was saying bad batter so I use searched the forum found this http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=115289 and ordered my new battery from digikey. Upon install of the new battery I fired up the game and noticed something strange. My player one controls weren't responding at all----hmmm. Thought maybe I pinched a wire or something when I put back on the metal gray cover. Removed cover booted up game and I had player one controls back.....assumed all was well. This morning I thought I really want to put that cover back on so I did carefully this time and what do you know no more player one again.....removed it once more player one back but now a new problem my hard drive starts to click. Hmmm. Rebooted got the game to boot one more time so I started running tests....controllers all passed but the Hard Drive got HDIO error, device timeout on hard disk with 24+++uncorrectable errors. Also the filesystem was unable to mount. Any thoughts suggestions would be great because this is beyond my realm of understanding right now.

OH yeah its a Gauntlet Legends converted to a DL in a showcase cabinet.

For $25, try a new hard drive:

Most common failures on these are the Hard disk drive, video card, and overheating due to the fans dying. There should be 2-3 fans inside for the game board; in a showcase version it might just be a giant fan in the back of the cabinet behind the metal case. Make sure it is working. It doesn't sound like an overheating issue, but the fans tend to cause the HDD and Video cards to overheat and do wacky things.

IMO, if you can find someone who sells a compact flash version of the hard drive, it is worth it. Those probably run closer to $100 if you find one.

There is also a user on the boards who used to sell a lot of the hard drives/kits/etc, I think his name was Toplezz or something similar.

ok thanks guys.....could a hard drive failure be causing the P1 joystick/buttons to act up as well? Thanks.

Probably not. I'd carefully check the cables to make sure everything is seated correctly.

If you have a DMM you can also check the signals on the p1 controls.
