Hello,
My Gauntlet Dark Legacy has recently developed an error upon start up. Hopefully someone can decipher this. I believe its an error with the machine's HDD and the communication of data but I'm not 100% sure and I look forward to any opinions.

Upon boot up I get my sound test 'beep' and then the version number comes up. Right after that I get an error that says...

"Unable to get home blocks
OIO error, EOF on file"

The OIO I can't see very well because it flashes quickly. It may very well be @IO, QIQ, or some other variation that looks similar.

I'm thinking its something with the HDD but since I can't see the error 100% I thought I'd ask. Any thoughts?

Thanks for your time!

EOF on file is pretty much a hard drive issue accessing a file, yes.

What version number comes up?

Any error codes on the diagnostic LEDs on the boards? Definitely sounds like a hard drive issue.

If you can, hold down the test button in the back of the coin area. If you can get into the test menu, you can run diagnostics on the HD.

Sounds like you've all confirmed what I thought. Beats it being a bigger issue though. I will check the LEDs when I get back near the arcade but I'm pretty sure they just keep cycling and never settle. I'll also attempt to get into the menu system and see how that goes. I was messing with it late Friday and was in a rush so I didn't get much time with it. If its only a HDD and it costs me $25 its not a big deal, I can spare that much :)

So I just picked up a dark legacy and came across this thread. When I got it and powered on I got a test beep and then it booted. Now I don't get a test beep, and the led runs up to six, goes back to zero then runs back up to six, and stays there.
Any ideas?

I believe 6 is a hard drive issue.

Check to see if its connected and has power.

What exact sequence of characters appears on the LED display from when you first apply power?

1,2,3,4,5,6
Then it flashes U3 for a bit and back to
1,2,3,4,5,6

Voltages are spot on, with a new power supply, as it sounded like a voltage/reset issue to me.
Its strange because the first few times I turned it on, it would boot.

Sarge, I think that's a hard drive error. The last number it flashes in the sequence before it restarts is what it's complaining about and 6 is hard drive.

If the power and data cable are good to the hard drive then you're probably best off getting a CF card replacement for the hard drive.
