I have a Gauntlet 2 board and I'm having some issues with it.
When I power the board on, the graphics are fine but there is no sound and the board does not coin up.
I first changed out the sound board with a board that I know is 100 percent functional and still nothing.
I went into the test menu and went to the sound test screen.
I let it do a sound test and after 3 seconds it pops up a flashing message and states (Sound processor not responding).
I read in the manual that location 16 on the board involves the sound. Can someone direct me where to start.
I also should mention that I do not have a rom tester.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Check the Rom and sockets near the sound processor. Forget which one exactly, mine was doing the same thing and it was a bad socket for that ROM.

The sound processor on Gauntlet is a 6502. You should be able to find it, it'll be a 40pin chip that'll likely have "6502" printed on it. If you have a known-good 6502, try swapping it in.

Do you have a logic probe? If so, watch the reset line and the clock line.

I am familiar with the 6502 chip.
I'll check that and see what happens.
What about the not coining up issue?
I have checked the harness and its good. I'm thinking again that its a board issue.

Correction, I changed the 6502 (Pokey) chip and the sound and the coin ups work perfect.
The only problem I have now is that I need a 6502 (pokey) chip.
Does anyone have any they would be willing to sell?

6502 and pokey are two quite different things.

Oh, and and make sure you use a 6502A in gauntlet. Regular 6502 is rated for 1MHz, Gauntlet runs the sound cpu at 1.75MHz. 6502A is good up to 2MHz.

A pokey will be labeled "C012294". I think there's one beside the 6502 in Gauntlet...

Woops. Your right.
Ok, so it's a Gauntlet 2 board and the one that was in the board that I think is bad is a 6502A.
So do I need a 6502A or a 6502?

For Gauntlet or Gauntlet II (no diff, except eproms and slapstick) you need a 6502A, or a 6502B (which is good up to 3MHz). NOT a regular 6502.

Alright.
Thanks again Darren for the clerification and also the help.
You saved me a bunch of trial and error time.
Now, does anyone happen to have a working 6502A or 6502B chip available?
