Gauging interest...NEW "black is Bulletproof" Amplifone flybacks

379 views and not one person wants one.

This community really is a bunch of cheap bastards :(

The truth shall set you free.
Should we not be supporting Mark Shostaks efforts anyway? I have yet to see anyone complain about the Cine version. Seriously Dave, I don't understand why the Cine isn't good enough for you? I don;t live for searching for Cine stories but I have yet to read a bad one.

What I don't understand is why it's ok for Cinelab to make a flyback and undercut Wintron/Lexel but if someone undercuts Cinelab it's all wrong ,

AND,

Why is it a dick move to ask $250 for a high quality flyback made in USA but it's not a dick move to ask $100 for the same flyback Bob and Chad can sell for $30.

And why support Cinelab over the true original, Wintron/Lexel ?

Just sayin..

Mark contracted for a new design to be made... people undercutting Mark are selling parts he had designed/made, rather than contracting for the manufacture of their own design.

They jacked up the when they perceived (falsely) that the market would support the new pricing. Not really a dick move, just business.

If you don't understand why undercutting Mark on his own work is a dick move, there's really nothing to discuss.

And why support Cinelab over the true original, Wintron/Lexel ?
Just sayin..

Support them both... they both have original designs, but they just happen to perform the same function.

I seriously doubt the quality of the cheap Chinese made one is anywhere near this. You get what you pay for. This one comes with a 1 year warranty. The Chinese one comes with nothing.

Nonsense.

I bought a couple from Mark Shostack (Cinelabs) directly and one failed after it's
"burn in" test. Was replaced immediately and without any problems.

This sort of thing gets discussed on tool and woodworking forums also. A lot of the big "American" brands of tablesaws, bandsaws, etc.. like Delta, Dewalt,... are in fact now made overseas. Some are made in the same factory as stuff sold by Grizzly, which started out as an importer of cheaper tools from Taiwan or wherever. Some of Grizzly's stuff exceeds Delta, etc.. in some reviews in some things like fit, finish. It's all in how it's spec'd out to the manufacturer and quality control. For something to be made in China or Korea these days doesn't necessarily mean it's crap. However, if you buy a $20 router at Harbor Freight, it probably IS crap.

What I always find amusing is that US people still think that only good products can be made in the US.

So......telll me friends......WHERE was the original DEAD-RED produced ????????

Not to mention cars and a zillion other products that sucked big time in production quality in the 80's.

The Wintron is a pain to intall. In Europe I probably wouldn't even be able to get the fitting nut.

What I would like to see is the story between the UK guy and Cinelabs and the development. I've recently seen about 10 pre-production test models of the Cinelabs in the UK.......

Anyway, Windtron/Lexel was greedy because they were the only alternative.

We've had a SW equipped with a Cinelabs upright running for 3 full days at a fair without being turned off all day without a problem. Honestly, with forced cooling, but I think _any_ Amplifone set-up needs that.

My SW cockpit is still running fine with it. No it's not running 8 hours per day, but that's not what I need....

In the mean time I was GIVEN some cine-like HVT's by the UK guy....so I'm settled for the coming years....

we are talking wintrons vs cinelabs, nothing else. Show me some Wintrons that had to be replaced that failed almost right out of the gate. As for installation, is it really that hard to solder a few wires ? If you don't want one don't order one. But any game worthy of an Amplifone is also worthy of the best flyback you can get for it.

Fair enough. It's not my goal to torpedo this initiative, I just find the "Made in the US" thus good quality reasoning rather funny.

But yes, the Wintrons/Lexels do have a good reputation.

It would be interesting to see how many people had failing Cinelabs (or their equivalents).

I'd far prefer it if Wintrons mounted in the original holes like Mark's do...

I also consider this new run of Wintrons to be an unknown, since nobody I know's gotten one since they were refabbed... just because the original blacks were bulletproof doesn't mean the new production run is....

Out of literally thousands of various flybacks stuck into monitors or sold from me 1(ONE) has come back from a claimed focus problem. And guess what, it was a k7000 flyback that i didnt even install. So what's that? Zilche from the ezv / amplifone realm have come back or have been reported as bad that have gone through my hands. Now go mark your notebook that arcadecup has a .00005% DOA rate.

That's news to me of dying amp or SANYO repro's in the wild. Sounds like a bad repair job by others (or yourself) driving the flyback incorrectly. *shrug*
I would love to see the list of boards you have rotting at your place that customers have said to have sent in for repair. I hear of years going by, as well as you never sending them back on request... A better list though, would be from reported customers who will vouch that you do such things. Let's say we start that list and post for the masses shall we? No run along now Mark, take me out of context, make stuff up, and continue your hysterical bantering and be the ass you are.

I say we stick to the subject for this thread's sake.

My guess is that Lexel just still has an old stack of Wintrons that they didn't sell yet...I don't see they did a new production when they only sell a couple per year....
