I have been talking with DPtwiz about offering and manufacturing his cabinets in Houston. The prices and design offerings would be pretty much the same as what he has been offering, with the majority of cabinets in the $350 to $450 range. These would all be precision CNC cut out of ply or melamine.

I am trying to get an idea of what the demand would be like for this part of the country and if it will be a viable investment to get things up and running. If it looks like the demand will be there to support the operation hopefully it will be up and running this summer.

Thanks,
Joe

I'd buy at least one cabinet each year you're in business, and I know there are more here in H-town that would too.

If I had the money, I'd probably buy some.

If you could get the price point down a bit, and sold assembled cabinets with the black coating like Arcadeshop does, my company would probably buy some every once in a while. Right now, the price is about the same from AS ($299 for an assembled Ms. Pac cab), and my boss would rather stick with what he knows than try something else for minimum effort. Now, if you offered unassembled kits for less money, that might be something also....

The cabinets will be offered in melamine with either black or white sides. I will be able to cover the inside of the white cabinets in black to match the way the Atari cabinets look. I will also be able to make them from a nice ply that will have bare unfinished sides. I hope the demand will be enough to get this going to supply the southern and central US with nice new cabinets.

I'd be interested in some point if I could find the space and money. At least, I've got a Nintendo cab that would be much easier for me to move everything to a new cab than fix it with the space I have... =\

Id buy a centipede cabaret right off the bat for sure. After that it would just depend on what other cabarets you decide to make.

Mod, i was doing mspac cocktails with new leg levelers and hinge for 185.00 add in the T-molding and comes assembled for about 200.00 can't hardly beat that, 99.00 off and alot closer to ship if he's in Texas!

I have 4 cabinets ordered from DP right now. I would think the market in Texas would be great. Sure would save me shipping but I'm sure I'll do more in the future.

DPt,

Have you considered making reproductions of the somewhat rare and uncommon Dynamo cabinet that was used for the "dedicated" version of Street Fighter 2: Champion Edition? That particular design is highly desirable among people on here, and it would be an ideal cabinet for people looking to "kit out" a Jamma setup or for custom projects. I used a "larger" version of this cabinet (also known as a "big blue Qsound" cabinet) for a custom Radiant Silvergun arcade cabinet recently. The dedicated SF2: CE cabinet is shorter than the one I used, making it easier to manage. You might want to look into it. I think that you might find that such a cabinet for people's custom projects could be quite lucrative...

it's finding an original, or finding extemely detailed plans that's stopping me. If i had one or the other, sure, i'll make just about anything people want.

Is this the first time that you have had anyone inquire about that particular cabinet? I know that I sure would like to be able to get my hands on some of those. The cabinet used on Dragon's Lair 2 was very similar, if not exactly the same. Those seem to be a LOT more commonplace...

Sorry to threadjack, but Lee, did you get my PM about a DK cabinet?

Joe, make sure you talk to Charles at Joystix -- he'd be a potential client.

I was thinking of making Konami 4 player reproduction cabinets down here in Houston. Although I don't really know the demand for them, I just have one to work out the dimensions with.

The good thing about this operation will be that I will basically be able to offer every cabinet style there is and not be limited to basic Galaga style cabinets out there. So no matter what oddball game you are restoring, as long as Brett has done it before or if you allow me to measure your cabinet I should be able to make a high quality copy of it.

We'd do the uprights more often. For $375, AS sells the following cab completely assembled with black coating and:

- Powder-coated marquee brackets
- Monitor mounting brackets (4)
- Marquee light
- T-molding
- Leg-levelers
- Back door lock

My boss isn't going to change suppliers unless he gets comparable quality and completeness for a decent price drop....

You would also need to factor in what you could possibly save in freight if they were being made over in Houston.

I am certainly interested in a couple of cabinets but cash poor at the moment. I will follow this thread with great interest. There is also an individual I use who transports cabinets (usually complete games ) between all parts of Texas and Oklahoma for a very reasonable fee which is a lot cheaper than any freight company I know of. He usually pulls a trailer with the cabinets wrapped in stretch wrap. I can hook you up with him if you need his contact info. I have used him several times and I know there are many others here that have used his services.

I'd be interested... if you were in the northern NJ/NYC area!

How much does shipping one of these things typically cost? Does it totally ruin the deal?

Thanks Komodo, I will keep that in mind if I need some shipping around the state. I will still have to check with the shipping companies on prices.
