Gatordads Defender to multiwilliams build/restore

What are you planning on using as the CP and Overlay? I thought about doing the
same to my defender but having to fab a CP to match one of the overlays made me
think twice.
I have my origional I am going to use as a templete and cut a new one, for the cpo I will put one of these on from Thisoldgame

Is that red paint really on as thick as it looks in this photo?

It's an illusion.......I only did about 3 or 4 light coats or till I had complete coverage with no bleed through of the black, I may have waited a tad to long to pull the stencil off, so what appears to be a hard edge is actually paint that skinned over and I don't know "snapped back" after I pulled the stencil. I waited till it was dry and just used a lint free cloth and most of the hard edges just wiped off after it had time to fully cure.

I ran my finger over the edges, with light pressure, just after I pulled the stencil off.
That pushed the edge down and made it look much smoother.
I did this to the edges that kinda pulled a bit and looked a little jagged.
That made them nice and smooth and sharp.

Thats awesome!
I don't have the skills in Illustrator to do a whole custom thing like that.

What joys did you put in, sanwa?

I like the cpo did you do that?

did you print a drilling guide?
I did one for my mame cab and boy was that nice.

Now just a few light coats of clear and inside it comes!

Yes Brian's stencils were awesome!

One thing happened when I was removing the last side of yellow.

A small portion of the stencil snapped and fell paint side down on top of guess where,...........

I knew right away that wasn't a good thing.

Right on top of a freshly painted area, so I had paint on paint, I said a few choice words after I pulled it off.

Needless to say, I was more careful after that. It touched up ok but really made me mad, cause the rest is so damn near perfect.

I am hopeful after I clear it, no-one but me will be able to find it.

Progress this past week

Bundled my harness
Cut a scrap of wood for the AC power and mounted all my pieces and I am almost done with the prelim wiring

I ran into some trouble with the first attempt at a clear coat

The polycrylic was to thick to run smoothly through those prevail sprayers so I thinned it with some water (I think that was a mistake), what looked like a lite coat, pooled and puddled in a few spots, I only did the front so my side art is still looking good, I plan to sand most of it down and try again with the normal rattle can polycrylic, any advise on getting nice results with the clear?

Red and yellow color?

I saw your stencils and am thinking about doing the same with my multi-Williams. Your colors looks great. What colors and brand did you use for the yellow and red?

Small update

It's inside now and looks killer next to my Ms. Pac, I think these will go back to back up against the wall so the side art can be viewed on both games.

I repainted the speaker panel and all of the grills, speaker panel grill, back of cab vents top and bottom. I also cleaned up and polished all of the marquee and bezel plastics, which turned out great.
Pic's of it coming together soon.....

Major items still need that still need to be done
Finish cleaning up and mount the stainless steel coin door and cut a new control panel.

I'm thinking led lighting for the translucent buttons.....
I also bought red t-molding, yellow t-molding, and some of the original black leather texture stuff, not sure what going to make the final cut yet.

Tonight I installed

Vent grills top and bottom
Light fixture
speaker panel
Marquee, and marquee brackets lower and top (Marquee looks awesome after I polished up with novus 2 then 1
cp latch hardware, this has to be the worst design for panel latches I have ever seen..... the center screws are a bitch to get to.

I also finished grouping my harness, (still need to install pins and molex for the break connectors)

I plan on installing my new vision pro tomorrow! Yahoo! getting close.

Monitor is in now and it's mostly together
I installed the break connectors for my cp and jamma harness this evening
After doing a few I got pretty fast at it.

Still need to finish the coin door

I am going to rewire my original Defender cp just to get it up and running till I have time to cut and drill the new multi cp

Time flies around the Holidays not much extra time on my hands to get her done. Little bits here and there.
