Hey guys, I have a sound question for the experts.

I have a Gate of Doom jamma board that was pulled from a dedicated game, the sound, voices, and music all work and can clearly be heard, but the volume is low. I have even cranked the pot all the way up, and it still sounds weak -- it actually sounds kind of thin, like from a tiny little speaker, even though it is coming from the big speakers of the cabinet (which work fine). Don't get me wrong here, all the sounds are playing at about normal conversational level, they just sound a little thin and weak.

I've also tested a working Gate of Doom board in the same machine, and the sound is loud and clear, so there is something not quite right with the first board. My hope is this is something I'm just missing, and an easy fix. Any ideas?

If you don't have an Oscilloscope or audio probe then all you can do are simple checks.

Check the resistence of the volume pot with your multimeter to make sure it's reading correct.

Compare readings with the working board.

If that all checks out then you may want to replace the caps in the audio section next.
