Over the wee hours of this past weekend my water heater decided to empty its watery contents into my dinning room, wash room, and garage (which is where I keep my precious collection). I can not begin to describe the horror that filled me when I stepped out into the darken garage in my comfy slippers only to get a squishy cold wet sensation around my feet. Wood floors? Ruined. Shared walls? Ruined. Out of print wallpaper? Ruined. My precious games? Safe and Sound!!

This past summer I decided to install casters on all of my cabs for easy move-ability. And that's what saved them. The casters raised the games enough off the ground to prevent the water from even coming in contact with the actually cabs. Thanks to the gaming gods I didn't postpone that little project, like I was very close to doing.

Sorry to hear this :(

When our basement flooded (broken sump) I was lucky to only have pinball machines down there. I kow that feeling, it's not a good one :(

Hope you can get everything squared away.

Chris

Might have to sell a game to pay for the insurance deductible. Glad the games were fine though.

I dunno what's worse to me, replacing hard wood floors and walls, or a game or two or three...

I just replaced my water heater as well... why don't they plumb the freakin' pressure relief valve OUTSIDE the freakin house? Mine dumps right in to the garage (aka the Arcade)... luckily I noticed when about a gallon or so had leaked out...

A friend of our went on vacation only to come home to a flooded house the washing machine hose had burst and flooded everything since it ran for they guessed almost the whole week.

They now have automatic shut off valves installed.

You can get all different kinds some with multiple sensors to shut off the main line others just certain ones.

Our pop off valves does vent to the outside the electrician said it was code now IDK for sure. We also put our tank in a pan in case the drain started leaking also.

I had my shop flood during a hurricane so now all the project cabs get their on small pallet to set on till its their time.

Glad everything worked out for you!

They put our hot water heaters in our attics. STUPID!

They inevitably leak and cause major havoc below...

The last time I had mine replaced I looked at having it moved to the garage but it was hugely expensive to redo the gas pipes, exhaust, and re-do the water pipes. :(

I just picked up a water alarm the other day just in case...

A few years back my sump pump died and I had about 2 ft of water in
the basement. This was before I had arcade machines down their so
it was basically filled with crap anyway. I did lose a TON of computer books
however. It must have been out for a week or so. We never used to go in
the basement.

I need to pickup a backup sump pump as well. To much riding on the basementcade being dry now.

The people in the townhouse 3 down from me went away on a Friday for the weekend. Came back on Sunday and walked into 2 inches of water on the main floor. The water softener had blown up and went through the roof. Pipes were on full and the ceiling became the floor! Total loss! Not only that, but the 3 homes sharing walls all had damage from the water.
Sucks! I can't imagine how bad of a feeling that would be.

I have the same fear with my basement. I need to figure out how to integrate an automatic shut off into my water line. I did manage to integrate water sensors into my alarm system and now my system sets off the house alarm and calls me if water is detected. My fear is that I wony make it back to
my house before the damage is done!

Now I will have more nightmares of flooded arcades... Glad you planned properly and avoided damage to your games!

Thanks for the kind words Guys.

The insurance deductible is only $1,000 which will cover any damage. I would rather spend the grand on another game but I'm just relieved that I still have what I do.

Now that IS the stupidest thing I've ever heard. What a horrible design flaw.

I had my washing machine (newer front loading style) leak water upstairs and it eventually worked its way into the cold air return duct and got into the basement a bit. My Red Baron cockpit took some water damage to its back door as well as some water on my Cruis'n USA and 6 player X-Men machines. Just 2 days before going on vacation the sump pump failed. Luckily it was before I left so I was able to put a new one in and it was a better brand compared to the cheap one installed originally. I feel your pain. :(
