So there was this garage sale listed on craigslist that had some games. I emailed the lady and she said they wanted $799 each for the games. That pricing was basically nuts, but me and my buddy decided to go look at them anyway.

Together we ended up getting a Pole Position Cockpit, a Ms. Pac cabaret (Fast), and a Centipede Cabaret for a total of $1000. Now those aren't the best deals in the world for unrestored games, but they are all presentable and they all work.

Had to nearly completely disassemble the Pole Position to get it into the basement. At least it comes apart a lot easier than Star Wars does.

I haven't looked inside the cabarets yet, but the pole has had some power modifications done, has a newer replacement monitor and has boards in it out of an upright. From the quarters I found in it I would say it was on location as late as 2002.

Whooo. I am dead tired. Almost got the Pole Position put back together again. Silly me, I actually thought I might get to play a game tonight.

The fact that you found a Pole Position cockpit in working condition is pretty damned special. What is the difference between the boards for the upright and cockpit? I thought they were the same. A cabaret Ms. Pac is not too shabby either. Good work.

I don't know if there is a board difference yet. I just noticed that the PCB and one of the power boards had UR serial numbers while the cabinet and the other power board had SD serial numbers.

The cockpit has a brake pedal that the upright lacks, but I don't know if that is a dip switch setting or rom setting or what yet.

Just ran all the Pole versions that are in mame and they all support the brake pedal, so I am hoping my brake will indeed work with the upright board.

Ok, got the Pole Position back together.

It does work and play, but the graphics have some weird lines over them, not words or static images, only the things that move, like the cars and the landscape, like it is not drawing every third line or so on moving objects. I didn't notice it when I bought it. It is the sort of thing that doesn't really stand out unless you know what it is supposed to look like.

I would show a picture of it, but the problem just isn't showing up in pictures.

+5V won't adjust higher than 4.78 and R29 is charred on the lower of the two AR II boards. The +5 and ground are attached to the boards at the closest test lugs rather than over the edge connector.

The AR II boards have not had the sense mod done to them (is R29 even relevant anymore if I do the sense mod).

The Ms. Pac-Man says "Super Ms Pac-Man" on the title screen. However it doesn't seem to have any weird mazes or anything else super other than the speed up. It is a Midway board inside, not a bootleg.

It probably has a replacement chip or daughter card.

I did a bit of searching and it appears that Super Ms Pac-Man was a speed up chip kit that happened to conveniently convert Pac-Man boards to Ms. Pac at the same time. There is another one out there by that name that changes the mazes but I don't have that one.

Anyone know off hand what sort of fire button a centipede cabaret is supposed to have? This one has a vertical microswitch one and that just seems wrong.

The boards are the same. It is the wiring that determines if the brake works. On an UR the two pins for the brake are tied together so the board just thinks the brake switch is never pressed.

Your board issues might easily be fixed by tossing in a switcher, you need to get the 5v up past 4.78.

Centipede cabaret should have a leaf switch.

Nice glad to heare they came down from their really overpriced stuff IMO. Yeah that was like 2 subdivisions down from where i live and i thought about going today to see what was left but decided to wait for the 7th instead. BTW ive been forgetting to hit you up on the neo geo carts been trying to find gameplay on some titles that seem interesting.

I saw those on CL and wondered what they wanted for em. I'd like a Centipede but not a cabaret so I decided to wait until I have more room and get what I want. Cool that you got some working games at a garage sale though.
