Hi! I'm new here.
I recently acquired a Galaga Cabinet, that after some simple repairs, works great.
I found a Gaplus PCB that I'd like to install. It plays fine, but the Gaplus title screen is somewhat corrupt with red lines in the background. I erased and reburned all 12 2764 EPROMs, but the title screen is still corrupt. So far this is the only corruption I have found.
I'm suspecting RAM or bad PROM, but figured I'd ask you guys.

Also, I am aware that Midway released a ROM upgrade to change the title screen to Galaga 3 instead of Gaplus. Is anyone familiar on which ROM's need to be swapped for this change? Does anyone have dumps of those upgrade ROMS?

I'm hoping the solution to these questions doesn't require new PROM's, as all I have is a willem programmer, and I do not believe I can burn new PROMS with it. Only EPROMS.

Thanks!

Not sure about your pcb, but you won't be able to play it with a Galaga joystick anyway.

I have an 8 way joystick on the way.
It does play with the current joystick, just cant move up n down.

See attached for what the corruption looks like

There are a couple of fuse link PROM chips that have those graphics in them.

The real upgrade isn't making it galaga 3, but converting it to the namco version.

The midway version is too hard and makes the game less enjoyable.

Do you know which chips they are?

I was not aware there are gameplay differences between the 2? Never heard that one.

Not offhand. check the MAME dumps.

I ran into that problem a long time ago.

I had the Japanese board before I got my dedicated cabinet.

Midway cranked up the difficulty on what is already a very difficult game! I wish I never sold mine but I did use the money to buy a galaga 88 board.

CrazyKongFan has an original japanese namco board, and he will agree with me, although he is good at both versions.

I plan on converting mine to the japanese version (long names in high score table and blood type) so I can enjoy it more.

I've found the difficulty to be fine on mine. Nothing too hard.

Does anyone know where I could get new PROMs? I have a willem programmer, and burn EPROMs, but not PROMs

I have a non-working Namco Gaplus board... no idea what's wrong with it.
If someone wants it for scrounging ROMs, PROMs, custom chips, etc., they can have it for $40 shipped. (I paid $80 for it.)
