Gaplus 5F 15xx custom IC

Is there a source for these? I picked up a supposedly working Gaplus PCB, but it didn't boot up when I put it in my Galaga cab. Started pulling chips, cleaning legs, and reseating. The GA2-4 chip at 3F had corroded legs, and came out missing a few. Looks like it's just a ROM, though, so it shouldn't be terribly difficult to replace.

The chip at 5F is in similar condition, but I haven't pulled it for fear of destroying what's left. The "preliminary" manual I found in PDF lists this as "15xx custom IC."

The only mention I found of these was on this list of NAMCO part numbers. Looks like these were in Mappy and Super Pac as well.

Are they available somewhere, or am I going to have to luck into a dead Gaplus/Mappy/Super Pac PCB to cannibalize?
 
Not sure if that one is reproed or not. Repro NAMCO customs are not cheap either!

Untested/bad Super Pacs can be purchased on ebay for almost as little as a NAMCO custom repro.

Why not post a request in WTB forum?
 
If you absolutely have to remove the chip from it's socket and you lose a few legs you can fix the chip instead of just buying something else. There's no shame in a little DIY to fix something.

I ran into several chips like that when working on Pole Position and Galaga. The legs would come off when removed from the sockets... so, you just rebuild them.

I used machine pin sockets because they're a good bit sturdier than regular sockets, but to each their own. Remove the chip from it's original socket, clean whatever legs are left (front and back of the legs), put it in a new socket and solder all the legs to that socket.

If a leg breaks off flush with the side of the chip, you can CAREFULLY, and SLOWLY dremel down the casing on the chip above that leg and solder a piece of wire to it and run that down to the new socket you'll be soldering the chip to.

Yeah, looks like most of those would break flush with the sides of the chip. You could clean them with a small wire brush and get them good enough to run a little solder on the tops of them, before you remove them, to see if that would give them enough support to hold the legs on. ... but, yeah... those look pretty rough.
