GameYum.com Launching - Video Game Store & Arcade Locator

We are preparing to launch a new site to help gamers locate video games stores and arcades in the USA and UK. Users can also comment on, rank and upload photos for stores and arcades as well.

http://www.GameYum.com

The site's homepage will also Feature an arcade and store profile as well as have boxes showing highest rated stores/arcades, recent comments and most prolific comment posters as well as users that have submitted the most stores / arcades into the system. Among other interesting ways to flesh out the data.

It will tie with Google Maps and give directions to the store/arcade as well as user submitted rankings and recommendations/comments. The arcade section will have an area where users can submit a list of Arcade Games/Pinball machines and a date to keep things current. You can search for locations to play specific arcade/pinball also by typing in the name of the machine.

Future will integrate a system similar to Groupon but only offering local gaming deals.

Launching in the next 30 days we hope :) Then an Ap using mobile GPS capability will be completed soon after.

If you guys have any other ideas that we should think about including please let me know here :)

I am not surprised. I only know about them because one of the admins is a friend of mine.

I wish they'd put forth some more effort on getting the word out...

Ya, I have been posting around here for quite a few years and don't recall seeing a thread about them. Looks like they have been doing it for quite a while. Our system probably won't be quite as indepth as theirs. Again more like Yelp if you have used that.

Aurcade.com isn't kept up to date (understandably), its way to hard to keep track of open arcades with so many closing.

Why do you think this website will be any different? It takes people to get off of their ass and keep the site up to date. Aurcade is very up to date on most of the WA entries, because people actually submit changes.

If your area is out of date why haven't you updated it?

I didn't say any other site would be different.

If I need information, I do what I do for all my travels, whether its for arcades or for sites pertaining to any of my other hobbies. I ask a local.

Aurcade and pinballrebel have been around awhile. Reminds me of that scene in Knocked Up where the guys were making a website with all the nude scenes and didn't know there was a Mr. Skin =P

Just because it doesn't have a thread here doesn't mean it doesn't exist =)

I think it's a great idea to combine video game retail stores and arcades. You might get some people stumbling across an arcade in their area that they might not have known about previously while looking for a retail video game store.

And the Google Map thing will probably open up many more locations to be found. I do like Aurcade.com but they are lacking in the number of locations compared to a site like Arcadefly.com which ties things in with Google maps. But Arcade Fly usually lacks in listing games for locations.

Just got back from the Kong-Off and saw this. Thanks for those of you that have mention Aurcade. I built it a few years ago as a labor of love. I miss the old arcades and wanted to know where to play them so I decided to build Aurcade. I admit I'm bad about *not* beating my chest to get the word out. It's just my nature. I try to let the community speak.

Someone said it above and they are right, it's only as good as the contributions. So if something is wrong or missing, let us know!

You can submit Locations here: http://www.aurcade.com/submit.aspx

I'm going to be upgrading several things about the site in the next two months leading up to Funspot's next tournament in June, so keep an eye out for that. We have some cool upgrades coming. If you wanted to see scores from last years ACAM/Funspot event was, you can see it here:

I'd like to see the 'submit a game' option be somewhere on the front page. It took a lot of searching for me the first time I tried to submit some locations and I almost gave up. If the submission option were a button on the front page I am sure you'd receive more submmissions.

Agreed. My own personal complaint is that while each individual page is well laid out and easy to read, the site navigation is too nested. That is my biggest item I'm fixing in the coming weeks.

That's really cool to hear. I love what Aurcade stands for. Looking forward to easier site navigation in the near future!
