Games You're Scared to Even Turn On

For me it's Galaga and Qbert (original PS) Galaga sometimes gives a ram error turn it off and back on it's ok Qbert worried that PS will take out sound board.

My Star Wars. I love to play it and always surprised when it works. Out of all the games that I have I know the least about it technically. If my other games go I can usually trouble shoot them pretty quick. Can't do that with the SW. :(

I'll second you on that one. I get a flickering screen that's probably just a cold solder joint (or so I've been told), but since I don't know how to find it, I just pray...

Good thread, I'll chime in...

Star Trek - need I say more?

Space War - just had it fixed, don't need any more problems with it.

Berzerk - never had an issue with it, but when I look at all those boards it just makes me nervous, wouldn't know where to begin to troubleshoot it.

Q*bert - it's been pretty solid for a few years, but before that....

all of them. I hate the anticipation of when the monitor has to come up...I just walk along my row and cross my fingers.

I wish they would just work forevvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrr

My two Sega vectors are the ones that worry me the most...however, I always have them on when Im in there..Vectors look best when there actually on! Lol!

I whould have to say my Pole position Cockpit. I really don't like to turn it on but everyone wants to play it every time they come over. I had it almost catch on fire one time but luckly I saw the smoke comming out and shut it off in time.

when i had my tempest, it worried me at first, but once i rebuilt the monitor and did the lv kit, i was never concerned anymore. but of any game i could think of, if i had a pole position i would probably be scared of that. just due to all the potential issues they can have.

Tempest and Red Baron....I have to admit Tempest has been pretty solid since I bought it over 5 years ago, but Red Baron has had a history of intermittent issues. Since I re-flowed the header pins for the interconnect cable and put on new edge connectors, it's been solid. I guess old memories still make me expect the worst when I power it up.

I have a Pole Position as well but it's never worked since I bought it last year.

Assault.

It's dang monitor has given me a lot of problems over the past months:

-Cap replacement
-Flyback replacement
-Arcing Issue
-Degaussing

Now, the screen will somtimes collapse and have white bars flicker on the screen every once in a while. I really don't know what else I can do.

No!! You MUST go there! That's my next project to work on! Share!

Lol

First working board set I had died 6-8 months later due to additional acid damage. I have a new board set from Hatrick that's very clean and working now.. So keeping the fingers crossed when that one is turned on!

Pole position cockpit....Worked for 3 days! Bought a working boardset and Retrohacker went bananas on the cab with every upgrade known to man. ROCKSOLID since! I've banged it into walls, moved it all over the place...no problems.

Tron..so finicky i sold it.

Baby pac..another surprise i know...about once a month it decides to come on with no video.

I have my games on about 25 hours a week so I have pretty good luck, they're like a car, they don't like sitting. Lol. The only game I have that has been giving me problems lately is Star Trek 25th pinball.
Works great when i get it, week later back box animation is out of wack. (just got fixed), Then it wants to run constantly. So I unplug it for now. Week after that it blows a 5A fuse, replace fuse. 3 weeks later blows the same fuse! Put in another fuse, gone instantly! let it sit a week, start checking coils everything's good...So I thought. Put in 8a fuse..Gone! Now I'm at wit's end..put in a 30a and watch for smoke! (Not recommended) Knocker coil. The only coil that wasn't checked. (do to Coors light) cut wires and wrap them. Now games works. OK now why are my upper GI lights out, connector is off a pin (some of these repairs happen while drinking) Lol. Now the lights are back, turn it on the next day and the lower GI are out! WTF! probably something stupid but haven't looked at it yet. So i have no lower GI lights and the animation won't stop running! It worked perfect when I bought it! Lol.
I think I may just take it to the local church for an exorcism! Lol.

I have a dedicated Star Trek: SOS (pic) that I picked up for a decent price from a fellow KLOVer a few months ago. It arrived not working and it turned out to be burned pins on the power supply headers and burned Molex connectors on the wiring harness. A skilled collector friend of mine totally rebuilt the power supply (new caps and headers) and replaced the harness connectors, all for $40 in parts shipped, and it has run perfectly so far and I'm very happy with it. I get very nervous turning it on and leaving it running while I'm not there playing/watching it. I've read so many stories about the Electrohome G08 catching fire... and yes I do keep a fire extinguisher in the basement arcade. But the G08 in mine looks beautiful and works perfectly. (It is loud though. Is it normal for G08s to be so loud? I don't know if it has had any mods done to make it more safe and reliable.)

My Tempest has been rock solid the entire time I've owned it, so it has never worried me. The previous owner is my region's resident 6100 expert and he bulletproofed it as well as anyone can, with an LV2000, etc.

I have an Empire Strikes Back upright with a 6100. The repair/maintenance history is unknown, but it works perfectly and has yet to give me any problems.

Star Trek. I moved it one day (across the room) and the monitor took a dump.

Qbert - I finally played it today - it died after 3 games when I got it a couple months back and I have chased every problem in a giant circle but now it works
