Peter Hirschberg's "Vector Tanks" for iPhone represents a good model. (Anyone here still have his "Vector Dream" emulator? Sweet.)
And there was a game for Commodore 64 that was kind of a BZ sequel (albeit obviously with raster graphs). I don't recall its name but it was essentially BZ with a myriad of enemy tank makes and models and, more importantly, warp stations at the mids of each planet. One warped from one enemy tank-laden world to the next by way of finding (and driving into) these warp stations. That was cool.
I'd like a 23rd century-tech fully emersed environmental cab version of Battlezone whereby players from separate locales battled the Evil Empire's air and armor armadae and/or each other.
Yeah. I'm totally geeking now!
