games you remember playing at 7/eleven or the liquor store

I'm 30, and 7-11 exited my area (Houston) when I was pretty young. They were all replaced by Stop N Go's. They had the arcade version of Contra, 2 Crude Dudes, Hammerin' Harry at different times. But I spent the most time and money on Street Fighter II there...usually watching college kids hog the machine (it was right next to University of St. Thomas).

I even saw a guy get punched in the jaw once for pissing off his Street Fighter opponent. One guy was dominating, and the other guy said something like "Well, your mom sucked my d**k last night." The winning player laughed and said something like "She don't suck d**k too well, does she?" The other guy shoved him and then punched him in the jaw. The manager was over in a heartbeat throwing the guys out. My friend and I just looked at each other, amazed. Probably the most excitement I've ever seen happen over video games.

My local 7-11 had a Asteroids delux, Sega Turbo and a pin that I don't remember because I never played it! ;)

Use to play starwars and karate champ at the 7-11 on Barrington and Santa Monica Blvd. In LA. It was right near high school so we would drop by there in the afternoon. There were also games at the Food King, defender, battlezone, and pacman. Id drop by there almost every day after school and play pac and defender to 1mil. My friend Brian would play battlezone, he was good, I think he played to 9mil one time. They rarely reset those machines so the scores would be there for months. Lots of glare there though so it kind of sucked. I bet those machines did not make much. :D

I don't remember anything at my local 7-11 worth playing when I was younger, but by the time I was riding my bike to the store to get junk food/drinks it was probably 1984 or 1985, which was after the crash. I do remember in the early 90s when I was in high school many convenience stores having a beat to hell variant of Street Fighter II, which I almost always passed on since almost every one I've ever played had at least one broken button.

I mainly played games when I would get dropped off at the arcade, which was typically once every 2-3 months. It was rare to see games outside of the arcade from what I can remember, and typically the game selection sucked to where I didn't want to play them.

What games do you remember playing and where?

Tom

We had a 7-11 in our town but I never stopped in. The White Hen store was closer to the house and the local arcade was just right around the corner. White Hen had no games.

My HS did have games in the lunch area (commons area). This would have been around 1984. The school had an Omega Race and an Asteroids. Thinking about it now I guess it's weird that any school would have any arcade games. I believe they got pulled out in 1985. I do not remember seeing them in 86-87.

At various times my childhood 7-11 had Air Buster, UN Squadron, Haunted Castle (I think), Rastan, and SFII-WW. I own a couple of these boards, still waiting for Air Buster or Rastan to come up for sale in the $30 shipped range. I am sure I'll eventually find a Rastan.

I wish convenience stores still operated games, I would stop in to play while I filled up at the pump. Ah well, that is what home arcade games are for, right?

Local 7-11 my dad and I stopped at all the time had Bump N Jump and anytime I could pry a quarter away from him, I would play it. Now all our 7-11's are gone along with all the video games.

Liquor store had a punchout that wouldn't move left...

More importantly...the local K-Mart had a Spy Hunter cockpit!

I used to play the hell out of Pac-Man at the bar when I was a kid, like 5 - 10 years old. Yes, my grandfather owned the bar at the end of the NJ turnpike and my brothers and I hung out there all the time drinking Shirley Temple's and playing the pinballs and arcade games. My grandfather used to give us the painted quarters so he'd get them back from the operator.

mine was a place called utotem (you tote'em),the game was donkey kong and it was right across the street. I was in 4th or 5th grade.

BAR grandfather owned a BAR? and you never invited any of us.

I remember the Chicken and Egg game that you always won at in Shop Rite in Toms River on Fischer Blvd. They also had a clown you could make dance at one time.

I played a lot of games at the 7-11 in Hoffman Estates, IL on Roselle Rd. near Higgins. Me and my buddies rode our bikes there, played games, made up crazy hot dog creations using the chili and cheese pumps and had a bitchin' time. Definitely an awesome care-free time in my life. :)

Games I remember most:

Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong Jr.
Ghost and Goblins
Dragon's Lair
Shinobi

Funny, I don't really remember 7-11 as a kid. We had corner stores and a place called "Open Pantry" now called Quick trip or Quick mart that was like a 7-11. None ever had games, and I lived on the North and South side. All my liquor stores had nothing but liquor and smokes.

If you wanted to play games, you could go to pizza shops, bus stations or movie theaters if you didn't go to Aladdin's castle the heaven of arcades back then. I guess I kinda missed out on that. Had those open pantries been a 7-11, I may have not eaten so much crap as a kid and mastered a game or two.

Northway Foods, a local convenience store BITD, had a Ms. PacMan machine in the summer of '82 that got tons of action from the neighborhood kids every day. Qix was the other machine they had that we played while waiting for the local neighborhood champ Larry to get done with Ms. Pac...

Non-arcade places we travel to play games

7-11: Moon Patrol, Jungle Hunt
Pizza Hut: Missile Command
Grocery Store: Journey

I remember playing 7-Eleven Q*bert....

Wait, actually that was last week in my basement....

We had Quik Trips and the games weren't there for long, mostly it was our place to get those huge microwave burritos and Sport Shake in a can. The bowling alley next door had the games!
