games you remember playing at 7/eleven or the liquor store

Hi guys,

Was driving home and passed a 7/eleven liquor store...It still looks the same but I doubt they have games anymore. Back in the day, they always had 2 or 3 games. Same goes for liquor stores. I remember always stopping on the way back from school. Dunno how many quarters I dropped in those machines, but it was alot for a kid. There were lots of arcades back then, but I remember doing most of my game playing at these 7/11's and mom&pop liquor stores. Probably because they were within walking distance for a 10-14 year old. What games do you remember playing and associate with these places?

I'll go first: At 7/11 I remember playing Pacman, Asteroids, Galaxian and Defender. For some reason it seemed like every 7/11 I went to had these four games and these 4 only.

At liquor stores, it was Asteroids Deluxe, Gorf, Ms Pacman, Berzerk, Missile Command, Punchout, Galaga, Phoenix and spyhunter (UR).

What games do you remember playing and where?

In Wisconsin, BITD, we didn't have 7/11s. They were Stop 'n Go stores.

'Bout '84-85, My playin' days were pretty much over... But one of my roommates was playing joust religiously at the stop n go down the street from our apt.

We would be comin home from the bars and we would see john's car parked out front and see him through the window playing joust at 2:30 in the morning. Priceless!:D

Wow, I was just a youngun' around then. There was just an Asteroids from around 1980 until 1983 or so in the 7/11 near my house, but we were in an artea that was kind of rural (for that time in San Diego county).

Ah yes . . . back when living was easy. We rode our bikes to the neighborhood 7-11. Next door was a liquor store. South San Gabriel, Cali

Games I remember playing:

7-11 (Missile Command, Asteroids, Lunar Rescue)

Liquor Store (Satan's Hollow, Dig Dug, Kangaroo)

I lived overseas and my parents would send us back to see family and friends. One stop would be at my grandfather's house in Cameron, TX. He was a great guy but there was nothing to do at his house. So I'd walk down to 7-11 and play their Flash pinball. Whenever I see a Flash it brings back 7-11 memories.

Flash pinball, candy and slurpees saved my summer at Grandad's.

We'd ride our bikes down to one of three 7-11's that all had games...
This was the early 90's, so of course, they all pretty much had Street Fighter II. I remember playing Mortal Kombat and Neo Geo machines... crappy conversions would also go thru like Aero Fighters I specifically remember.

We were very fortunate to only live 3 or so blocks from a 50+ game arcade. So we'd ride our bikes down there most of the time, only if they were closed or we were farther away from home, and we wanted Slurpee's did we goto play @ 7-11

I remember riding my bike with my brother to play Spy Hunter at the 7-11 near Marymoor park in Redmond, WA. I also remember going to the 7-11 in Woodinville to play Donkey Kong. Also remember going to Sam Pizza and I believe it was called The Outer Limit both also in Woodinville. Good times!

I wonder how our classic games would perform if they were put back on location in a 7/eleven...I'd bet a game like Asteroids would do pretty well. It's an oldie but goodie to us, but it'd be an entirely new game to a new generation of kids/adults. The only thing is, would you be cool letting your kids hang out at a liquor store these days? I get the creeps just thinking about it, heheh.

Wow. My 7-11 had Rolling Thunder and Moon Patrol... Um... Sidearms and R-Type at the Circle K, but I didn't drop a ton of quarters into them, I was broke. :(

The game selection varied from time to time, but those are the ones I enjoyed the most. Year? Crap. Erm. Probably around 83-84ish? (I'm guessing, so if I'm naming games that came out later, then oops)

My dad would take me to a couple arcades when I did good in school, and give me like $20 in tokens. Back then, that was like the biggest pile of money ever... :D

heheh yes Moon Patrol! I remember that at the liquor store. I sucked pretty bad at it. Also remember a ton of Yie ar kung Fu, another tough game.

Stunt Cycle, which as far as I can remember is the first arcade game I ever played.

I probably could have graduated high school a year earlier if there hadnt been a mini game room at the Handi-Mart next to my school!

This was late 80's, so I played tons of Cabal, Double Dragon, and R-Type. There was also a Funhouse pin, so of course that is my dream pin to own.

There was a Twin Mart closer to home, there I played 1942 and my friend always played Rastan. I bought a Rastan PCB for him to play when he comes over now.

When I was a kid, we had a brand new 7-11 built just down the street from me. As luck would have it- they did NOT put in a gameroom. You can't imagine how dissapointed I was! So my 7-11 was a dud.....but we did have a Deli/Pizza place nearby and they had a kickass game room. I know we are supposed to list for 7-11, but since mine was a dud, here are the games from the local deli I remember playing:
Galaxian
Tutankham
Pole Position
Roller Aces
Rush 'n Attack
Ready Aim Fire (pinball)

Spent the summer of 83 in Arlington TX..

7-11 had Moon Patrol, Journey and Defender

Spent a lot of money every day on those for a few weeks.. =)

Good times!

There was a Danners (kinda like a 7/11 - walgreen's) that had a Satan's hallow.

Two packs of lemon heads: 23 cents, which left 3 x 25 cents to play.

heheh those are some awesome games Mark, 7/11 or best equivalent...At my pizza parlor they had Mappy and Millipede. In fact that is the only place I remember seeing Millipede. At one liquor store I remember they had Wizard of War right next to a Warrior cab. Also the only place I ever saw that game in the wild.

I always forget about those ddonald! I used to like the Johnny Appleseed and the Alexander the Grape's... What were the little red cherry ones? Cherry Clan or something?
DAMN, I'm gonna have to try and remember to pickup a box of each next time I'm at the store stocking up on sweets!

ahh yes good old Lemon Heads, I had forgotten about those..can't remember the last time I've had any...Do they still make them? For me, it always came down to an extra few games or a beef stick or soda.

I remember one time I had to go the bathroom real bad, but I was having the game of my life in asteroids.. I tried to hold it and keep playing, then the dam broke. Looked down and saw a pool of yellow liquid forming by my foot..Needless to say I took off. On the walk home, as I passed other kids coming out from some other school, I kept muttering to myself (so they could hear) "Damn water balloons!" heheh fortunately that was the only bathroom related disaster I ever had playing vids.
