Games you played a ton BITD but have no desire to own?

Fantasy and Bosconian, both from 1981, were the first pay to continue games.
Bosconian yeah, but I always thought Fantasy was a little earlier with that mechanic. Either way it set the stage for how common it got later.

Funny, I'm the opposite on Spy Hunter. Always wanted one at home even though it ate my quarters back then. But something like Hard Drivin I'd never drag into the garage.

I agree with you.

It's one of my favorite games.

Interesting gameplay, good ramp up in difficulty...unusual controls with 7 different functions impossible to play without the dedicated hardware.

Definite keeper for me.

Yeah that control scheme really makes it. Without the original panel it just doesn't feel right.

There are a lot of different controls but I find it very intuitive.

Other games like Defender that have a lot of controls I just can't get down with

Actually Spy Hunter has 8 independent/dedicated/physical hardware during-gameplay controls, not 7:

Steering left/right
Button for machine gun
Button for Oil Slick
Button for Missile
Button for Smoke Screen
Button for Weapons Van
Gear Shift
Gas Pedal

I wonder how many other games have at least that many?

At first I thought this was a weird premise- but I suppose not!
I never played any one game enough to get good at/sick of it apparently.

And I have a Gauntlet and Rampage here that both get plenty of play when people are over BUT they both require multiple players at once to remain fun and I leave them on regular credit set up and put a bucket of quarters just within reach to make it so someome has to scramble frantically and get a coin through the flaky acceptors to keep going.

Adds to the charm-
That's freaking hilarious about the quarters. I love this.

I do something similar where I keep my games with the countdown timer the furthest away from the change machine. That way they have to run from the game to the machine and back to get the quarters in. Then there's a handful of Canadian quarters in there as well which you don't notice in the dark room. Just adds to the authentic experience haha

Road blasters.

I played the everliving hell out of the game when I was little, on PS1's Arcade's Greatest Hits: The Atari Collection 2

It is the only game in that collection I have no desire to own. It just doesn't hold up for adult me.

I did briefly own a cockpit, but that was a complete disaster (and only came about by pure chance). I wouldn't get another one.

There are a ton of games I like playing but would never purchase. Mainly because of space limitations. But getting my Spy Hunter cockpit and finishing the restoration was a high light for me a least.

They weren't.

While I think we all have limited space, some of my decision is on the unique controls, colors, artwork and soundtrack. Like sometimes the theme of the game is important too. I prefer games with steering wheels or fun controls, from 1980s games mostly early 80's. Dragons layer, the attract mode, the cartoon characters, it's fun, I have a Space Ace and it will also play Dragon's layer. If I were to get rid of one, that'd be it. SuperSprint can get boring too but that's a multi-player game (same time) and I think that makes a difference too. I have Demolition Derby, Championship Sprint, SuperSprint, Super Off Road, Track and Field, Red Tent and Mario Brothers and those are more fun due to competing against other humans.
The 4player games like TMNT and Simpsons look fun but I've never been a direct fighting game person, especially karate ones and gun games. Now, I'll totally play them at the arcades around here but not currently interested in buying one.

I'd say Dragon's Lair too. Others: Asteroids, Pacman, Ms. Pacman and Donkey Kong - played a ton, but never owned these and don't really have a desire to get any of them.

I'd like to add Xenophobe to this list.

It was in the game room at the dental office my Grandpa worked at and I played that game a TON as a kid.

Have never had a desire to own it.

Metal Slug?? Poured quarters into this one at the local pizza place, however... it just doesn't do it for me like it did when I was a kid. Guess its not too comparable since you can just swap any other game into your neo geo LOL.

Turbo and Karate Champ. I used to play the hell out of them back in the day. I ended up buying both cabs for my game room thinking that I would get the same enjoyment I did as a kid.
I thought wrong! Neither gave me the warm and fuzzys like they used to. I ended up selling Turbo and Karate Champ is currently looking for a new home :)

Zaxxon. As a kid, the 3D perspective was mesmerizing. I'm sure I dropped more coin into Zaxxon than any other game, and I don't recall ever getting past the first few levels. I thought it was an awesome game, and I was just bad at it. I played it enough. I don't want one.

Agreed 100% there.
Played it to death when it came out in 1996. Got so good, I could usually Icc it.
Now I look at it and have zero desire to play.
