Games you played a ton BITD but have no desire to own?

Golden Axe, Smash TV, Gauntlet, Rampage

Partially because of the continues but more because I can play them easily on MAME.

I mostly collect games with unusual controls that I cannot play well on MAME

I really loved playing BattleZone at Showbiz back in the day...there's never been one that has come up for sale locally, so maybe that's what is keeping me from owning one, but another thing is that I just don't want to deal with vector hardware problems.

I was going to post a meme image saying that your question made no sense, but after hearing others say Gauntlet and Rampage, I guess there are a few. Mostly quarter-munching ones like them.

I had a Kung-Fu Master when I first started collecting, and it got real old real quick. Space Invaders as well. Too repetitive = no bueno.

I'm limited by space (aren't we all!) and cost. I read up on what the most likely games are to be played repetitively by people. Because let's face it, I'm spending more time trying to get the games running and going than actual time me playing them (oh it must be nice to buy a restored game already functioning and bullet-proofed!).

So if I'm getting a game, I'm gonna wanna hopefully see someone else enjoy it!

But there are games that would AMAZING to have, but I don't think I could justify the space, even if just looking at it would be cool.

1. Air hockey. There was a cool Pac Man themed one where it would shoot out a whole buncha pucks. I would have to get ride of 3 games to even make it feasible... I bet if I had one, I would play it, and then eventually people (including me would put stuff one it as a "temporary" table, and then we would clean it off when people would come over only to play it for 20 min.

2. Fighting games. Ugh, I want one, but it's unlikely I'm going to find people to play it other than button mashing here and there. I only know Scorpian's move in MK, so my son would undoubtedly learn to block it and proceed to kick my butt for eternity because I won't have the time (nor the reflexes!) to learn how to beat him. I know Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 because of the Dreamcast, and that would be neat with everyone knowing Marvel characters now, but I don't have any sentimental attachment as an arcade game. I wish MK and Mvs.C2 had the same button layout... you could probably convince me then...

3. An airplane game. Afterburner or Mach Storm(!) Would love one, but I think it's all the same levels with enemies in the same spots. So people would be playing it by themselves and then the novelty might wear off. But just looking at it would be worth the cost of admission! Anytime that was at an arcade I would think, cool!

4. Redemption games. I think one would be fun to fix up, but parts and space are the first factor. The other thing is would the novelty wear off on a wack-a-mole or arm wrestling machine?

All the 4P Konami games. X-Men, Simpsons, TMNT, etc. Awesome looking dedicated cabinets, but subpar, repetitive gameplay that suffer from the "pay-to-continue, not really great for a home environment" effect mentioned already. Used to own X-Men and never really looked back after selling it. The same for WWF Wrestlefest. It was cool and nostalgic to own, but the nostalgia wears off quickly once you realize no one really wants to play it.

And +1 for Smash TV for the same reasons. I own one now and it gets about 5-10 mins of gameplay before folks get bored. I don't think it will be a longterm keeper.

You need a S.A.M.I.! Yes, it is repetitive. But it is such a different game that goes well in a home setup.

At first I thought this was a weird premise- but I suppose not!
I never played any one game enough to get good at/sick of it apparently.

And I have a Gauntlet and Rampage here that both get plenty of play when people are over BUT they both require multiple players at once to remain fun and I leave them on regular credit set up and put a bucket of quarters just within reach to make it so someome has to scramble frantically and get a coin through the flaky acceptors to keep going.

Adds to the charm-

BZ UR

Hated having to be hunched over and looking through that sweat swapping periscope…

But that's just the way it was.

Played hundreds of games on URs. Never knew there was a cabaret until I saw one at an Ohio Turnpike service plaza in the mid-80s.

Love at first play. A cabaret is just more ergonomically correct and comfortable to play.

A BZ cabaret was the first game I ever owned.

There are a lot of games on your list I'd love to own or have owned. When you're ready to sell them I'll buy them.

Crud, I don't even remember anymore.

That's troubling.

I'm more into the few games I missed that I wish I had played. Quantum comes to mind. If I ever find a local one….

Funny, I'm the opposite on Spy Hunter. Always wanted one at home even though it ate my quarters back then. But something like Hard Drivin I'd never drag into the garage.
