Games You Never See Converted...

I seem to recall a long time ago there were pics of an AD converted to LaZarian, of all things.

And don't forget the Battlezone converted to "Altar of the Unnamed" :p

I have seen Ninty's converted to:

-Knucklebash
-8 ball action
-driving game
-midnight resistance

I have a Popeye cab that was converted to Superman.
I have a Pac cab that was converted to Super mario. Sanyo monitor and everything. That seems weird.
I have only seen one Spyhunter that has been converted. (another driver)

I think the onlything I have never seen converted off the top of my head is a Big Run.

I realize I'm not an operator, and you're asking about games in the field, but I bought a PPII stripped cab and made a mame machine out of it... Second game I ever 'built'...

And the colors look wrong on the control panel, but they actually match. And I designed the CPO and bezel art. ;)

But, along those lines, how many non-driving games do you see being converted to drivers w/steering controls? ;)

I picked up a Centipede from an op that was converted to World Rally. Speaking of World Rally, why did they make the marquee so damned tall? Every one I've ever seen has had the car cut off because the marquee is way too big to fit in almost all games.

I always see PP's converted to Final Lap games.

Heres one I mamed about 10 years ago (and before you shout at me, it was already stripped down before I had it)

Nope, never saw a PP converted to anything other than PPII. I don't think I have ever seen an Asteroids Deluxe converted. Asteroids, yes, but AD, never.

The 2nd cab I picked up was a Heavy Barrel conversion in an Asteroids Deluxe cab. Whomever did the conversion put a shelf in for the monitor to sit on and setup the cp with 2 joysticks with 2 buttons each and P1/P2 buttons. Woodgrain vinyl on the sides. It's now a 48-1 and is in my father's possession. :)

That's actually a factory conversion and conversion kit. The manual for it is up on arcarc.

I'm actually looking for the control panel for a Vs in a Pac cab if you still have it.

Such hate for Kangaroo.. I love mine.. esp with its Showbizz Pizza serial tag on the back...

I would assume the same goes for Arabian.. another game I love.

I've had a friend that had a room full of Nintendo Cabs that were converted. All they did was put in the new game and reverse the bezel..

Lazy Lazy..

space invaders never seen a conversion(other than to deluxe invaders). Pretty much any black and white game..
cinematronics games. never see amror atack, ripoff, star castle, space wars, ect converted.

Never saw a converted Star Rider. Barely saw any in the wild...
Not many converted cockpits either.

Battlezones got converted to RedBarons. Atari made a kit to do it. New shroud, red get filter and new control panel.

Not many Duramold conversions (just destructions).

I do have the CP left actually. Have not touched it yet. I was going to multi the cab. I think I have another Pac cp I could use. Or I could make a new one. Let me check tomorrow and I will pm you with what I find.

Yep I repaired and cleaned one up for a local restaurant. When I was done, I kept the conversion manual, if'n someone needs a hard copy:

I was offered an empty PP cab a couple years ago for $135. It had been JAMMA-tized and the person offering it wanted too much in my opinion. Just because I paid $35 for an empty gutted and converted Tron (and before I get flamed - all the plexi was UV fried and hazed with spiderline cracks and when it was removed it literally crumbled) that was long ago made into an Offroad (Atari) and still had the gas pedal doesn't mean I'm going to pay over a hundo for a bunch of particle board.

The Tron ended up a nice MAME and the PP? Well, back on thread topipc, it had been painted black on the sides, had no marquee, and no mechs behind the steering wheel.

PP's do get converted but it is rare, I don't think I ever played a converted sit down S.T.U.N. Runner though.

Here's some pics for everyone that's missed a Cinematronics cab or Wizard of Wor cab conversion.

The WoW is a caberet and will be un-converted in the near future.

Kangaroo is love/hate. I love it. Most people hate it. I can think of a lot worse games though. I think it comes with the publisher name - at that time most Atari games were top notch. People expected more. For me, the first time I played Kangaroo was on my Atari 800 computer and at the time I had very few games. My parents were actively anti-arcade - so it's probably mostly nostalgia for me. I was able to play that, Popeye, Pole Position, and Pac Man at home and foil "the man."

The converted Battlezone has been at CAX for the last couple of years...
They turned a BZ into a Star Wars Pod Racer game.
Controls and ergonomics actually feels pretty good playing it,
but I think they should have converted an original Star Wars vector upright cab!! ;)
