Anyone ever seen a Pole Position converted to something else (no, PPII doesn't count)? I don't know what got me thinking about this, but I don't think I have ever seen one converted. If someone has a pic of one, please share.

Any others?

Nope, never saw a PP converted to anything other than PPII. I don't think I have ever seen an Asteroids Deluxe converted. Asteroids, yes, but AD, never.

For some reason Kangaroo, you always see them original and in good shape.
Don't know why though.

Operators were worried that the "suck" inherent to Kangaroo would possible infect the game it was being converted to. It was better to simply tuck them in the back of a warehouse somewhere or burn them to death.

World Rally. All the time, back in the day.

See that's another driving game though, so not much changes. You are right about the conversion, but I meant like had anyone ever seen PP get converted to something w/ buttons and sticks.

Ha ha, you're prolly right about that one.
Poor ol' kangaroo she never gets any love. I'm selling mine this weekend, believe it or not, to a guy who claims it was his fave game back in the day.

My guess is that didn't happen too often, `cause you'd have to really build up a new panel. Couldn't just delete the shifter & wheel and then stick `em on the old one.

But, along those lines, how many non-driving games do you see being converted to drivers w/steering controls? ;)

I saw a DK with a driving game in it once, I think it was a weird conversion kit for DK's.

An operator in Maryland in the early 90s had turned several upright Pole Positions into 4 player cabinets.

Essentially, the PP control panel and "dashboard" was removed. Then the angled part of the sides of the cabinet that lined up with the control panel were removed. Essentially, they cut the sides so that the straight edge by the bezel went straight down, then made a 90 degree turn toward the outside of the cab, where the bottom of the PP control panel had been.

Then a four player game control panel was bolted on.

I saw two different Wrestlefests like this, and an NBA Jam as well. I wish I had taken pics.

Hang on (super hang on/etc doesn't count, imo).

Seriously though, almost anything was converted at one point. Where there is a will, there is a way. When I used to work for a guy building multi-games, we used to joke about converting a Crane game and putting a 48-in-1 in it.
