Games you can't explain why you put in a 2nd quarter

I think it's ok to try any game once. But if it's really terrible, why play a second time? There are many games that I know I used to play a lot in the arcade days and I can't explain why. I hated them then and thought they were stupid. About the only reason I can think of is "because it was there and it was open (no one else playing)".

I can think of many for me, but one that comes to mind immediately is Astro Invader. Just played it on MAME to be sure I was thinking of the right game. I can't think of a more dull boring drab game.

How about you? What game did you play a lot that even then you knew was terrible?

Double Dragon. But not because I didn't like it. Because I didn't NEED to put the 2nd quarter in. I usually finished the game on 1 credit.

dragon's lair is disqualified, it always cost $.50. you had to put the second quarter in if you wanted to play.

:D

I know, and I still regret it. :)

I actually played that quite a bit, but it was only because it was free. My friend's parents owned a restaurant and had one in there for a while. I think we got bored of trying to memorize everything and never finished the game. They also had Track and Field and a High Speed pin, so those got played a lot more.

Dragons Lair

Here's why you keep playing :D

I remember the local mall arcades and playing games a second time since there wasn't anything else open or I didn't want to go across the mall to the other arcade. I don't recall the specific games, but I do recall the arcade had mostly second tier games (non-Atari, Williams, and Midway) such as Centuri, Cinematronics, bootlegs, etc.

Every once in a while, I'd think "That game sure seemed to suck, maybe I'm doing something wrong" and watch someone else play it, see them do a lot better, or realize a trick or two, then try it again.

But my first instinct was usually correct. ;)

I forgot about that game.

That Bullfighting game by I think Sega?

Ring King was another so so fighter, I'd rather play punch out

WHAT WAS THAT GAME???

The Sears at Brookfield Mall in New Berlin, Wisconsin had an arcade room
and they had that. Sorry, I loved that game. I totally forgot about it.
What was that called?

The funny thing is, my first thought was based on their complexity or depth, so I turned my back on games like Robotron, Bubbles, Major Havoc, etc. BITD. I own and enjoy two of those games today!

That Brookfield Mall, is Brookfield Square and it is in Brookfield, WI. New Berlin is the town to the south of Brookfield. I still live in and grew up in Brookfield. Spent many a quarter at Alladin's Castle at Brookfield Square.

There was the one attendant that always worked there. "We have a special today TWEnnnty Tokens for $3.75."

For me the game that I do not know why I put extra money in would have to be Dragon's Lair as well. Playing it or watching it were basically the same and they put a TV up ontop of the game already. That and the game at my arcade was so beaten up you had to slam the Joystick to get it to recognize the moves.
