I'm not talking about buying a game that plays blind or anything, I'm talking about buying a game that you have never actually played (excluding testing before purchase).

I've bought Star Wars Trilogy and a 4 slot Neo Geo (yes, I had never played Metal Slug).

I only have two. I had never played:

Centipede
Asteroids deluxe

Only bought them because of this site. I gained an appreciation for classics from here. Most of my games are 90's games because they are the ones I enjoy the most. I do love AD now but Centipede is just kinda ok to me.

Well, beings I grew up post arcade era, I never played the arcade version of most games I own. I mostly played them on the NES, loved them and decided to search out the arcade version.

Among games I have owned, but never played in "the wild"

DK (played on the NES)
DK Jr (played on the NES)
720 (played on MAME)
Hyper Sports (never played)
Mario Bros (played on the NES)
Robotron (never played)
Popeye (NES)
Warlords (CAX '08)
Marble Madness (NES)
Super Punch Out (SNES)
APB (never)
Centipede (didnt play until 2006)
Food Fight (CAX '07)
Zookeeper (CAX '10)
Millipede (CAX '07)
Toobin (CAX '07)
Bubbles (CAX '08)

Games I have owned that I did play in an "arcade"/pizza shop/mini golf/movie theater/etc:

Punch-Out!!
Track and Field
NBA Jam
NBA Hangtime
Mortal Kombat II
Paperboy
Vs - Super Mario, Dr Mario, RBI, etc
Taxi pinball
Ms Pac Man
Golden Tee FORE
OutRun
Tetris
TMNT - Turtles in Time

I only own two cabinets, Killer Instinct 2 and Battletoads, and I hadn't played either arcade version of the game before owning them. Both games are made by Rare, and I have been a huge Rare fan through my entire childhood. I enjoyed Donkey Kong Country, Goldeneye, Battletoads, KI, Banjo, etc... When I was 6 or 7 years old, my first purchase with saved allowance money was Battletoads for Gameboy. I loved the Battletoads series on NES and SNES, but then it died off. I remember seeing a Battletoads arcade machine in an ice rink when I was little, and I loved the amount of blood and shock factor. I did a little research on it, and after seeing a few videos online, I really had to have the machine. I finally ended up getting one off eBay, and it was my first full size arcade game.

I was a huge Killer Instinct fan for SNES. When it first came out, I played it nonstop for weeks with friends. Unfortunately I never had the chance to play the arcade version, or the sequel. Just last month there was an arcade game sale near my place, and I stopped by to see it. As I walked in, I immediately took notice of a beautiful KI2 machine sitting there. With the giant Rare logo on the side, B. Orchid smiling at me, I knew I needed it... I was planning on holding out for the original KI, but its been slim pickings in my area, and I can't afford to pay eBay shipping again. After having people over for New Years, everyone seems to enjoy playing KI2 a lot more than Battletoads... It is a fun game, and I still get a bit of nostalgia from it, even though it isn't the first KI.

My current Crystal Castles...never saw this in the arcades in North Vancouver back in the day. But the price was right. I do recall Gorgar (pinball of course) and playing it so that one I had to have!

Interestingly, most people I tell do know of Crystal Castles and always give it rave reviews.

A pair of SF Rush The Rock's. I knew I wanted linked racers so I did a bunch of research here to see what people thought of it. One of my best purchases!

My first pin, Twilight Zone, was a game that I had never played before. I bought it purely on the praise that my cousin had given it. Good decision. I had also never played Jurassic Park before picking it up this past summer.

I got 4 I bought before ever playing:

Shuffleshot - a huge fan of shuffleboard but no room for a 12 or 16 foot table, so I knew I would like this. I was right.

Galaxian cocktail: Remember playing Space Invaders when I was little, but not this for some reason. Looked fun, and it was. Sold it for rent money several years ago, and now wish I had it back. :(

High Impact Football: Looked pretty fun, got it at the right price, but only gets a lot of play when I have people over.

Mousin' Around (pinball): Guy was selling it pretty cheap and it looked fun. Had a couple minor issues that I got fixed (mouse traps wouldn't reset). Wanted to get a Cyclone for the longest time, but am glad I got this to hold me over.

Just a litle fyi, it is incredibly easy to convert ur ki2 to a ki1, or you could even just drop the cash for a working ki1 board and hdd, plugs right in around $200+ last time I seen though.
But I think getting ki1 sound chips and cf hdd for ur ki2 board will run you something like $75

Gauntlet Dark Legacy - I had played the original Gauntlet but never the later versions.
Great 1000 Mile Rally - I had never played it before I bought it.
Xybots - never saw one before I bought it. I took the previous owner's word that it was a cool game.
Karnov - I bought it for the cabinet and just liked the game.

Edit: You can add Arch Rivals as well. I knew about it, but never played it before I bought it.

Viper Phase I
Marvel vs Capcom
Jungle Queen pinball
Challenger (I remember it vaguely..)

Believe it or not, I've passed on lots of stuff I have no interest in..

Games I never played BITD or prior to buying:

Donkey Kong 3
Star Wars
Sinistar
Tron
GORF
Satan's Hollow
R-Type
Pig Out
Elevator Action
Jungle King
Turbo
Shark Attack

I tend to keep more of the ones that I never played BITD than the ones that I DID play BITD. I usually think I'll love them all over again, so I buy them, then quickly tire of and sell them. Games to have suffered that fate:

Outrun
Double Dragon
Ghosts n Goblins
Heavy Barrel
Altered Beast
Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong Jr.

There are several BITD games that I HAVE kept and still love, but they are all mostly pre-1982:

Berzerk
Moon Patrol
Centipede/Millipede
Sea Wolf
Space Invaders
Space Wars
Pole Position
Qbert
Ms Pacman/Pacman
Galaxian
Asteroids Deluxe
Mario Bros

I recently picked up a Cheyenne, which I had never played BITD. I still need to get er into the house and cleaned up, but I am looking forward to shooting that gun!
