Basically games that have more going on around the monitor area than just a standard printed bezel. Games with 3-D backgrounds, lit backgrounds, lit bezels, inner side graphics, black lights, whatever. If you have any good quality pics of the viewing area of a game where the designers went above and beyond in the visuals department, post them here.

I don't have any games that are super cool like that!

Me neither. I think once you hit late-80s and on, cabinet designs were no longer creative or innovative, especially JAMMA games. Which is a shame, as we all know, the look and feel of the cabinet is part of the experience.

+1 for Tron for both cabinet aesthetics and viewing area.

Someone needs to post a sweet inner pic of their Mr. Do!. The one I took of mine several years ago was taken with a 2.0 MP camera and is low quality. EDIT: Plus I never had the correct bezel for mine:

Don't have pics right now but Battlezone is one.

It's interesting that most of these games were made in 1981 or earlier. I think there was a tendancy to incorporate some EM aspects into games back then, since some of the designers presumably worked on EM games at some point.

I guess you could put Subroc 3-D out there too. Never seen one though.

I wonder if you could include some of the early shooters too.

space invaders and space invaders deluxe
solar fox
omega race

sorry no pics on hand

Yeah, no pic kinda defeats the purpose. I know I could list a ton of them as well, but I don't have good pics of all of them to provide a visual.

I have 5 games from the 80's and none of them have anything interesting going on. The most interesting would have to be Baby Pac.

There was that time I accidentally backlight my Galaga bezel with the shop light when I was working on it.

Yeah, I wonder why they felt the need to go away from that EM cross-over style? I thought it was really successful.

wow, that asteroids deluxe background looks great. It pops a lot more than the one that I just picked up...might need to check the lighting to make sure it's all working properly.

That's because I installed a BLB rather than the WBL that Atari used. It lights it up a ton better.
