Games that would make great Games…

Super Spike v'ball on the NES would have made an absolutely incredible 2-4 player Red Tent game. It's just begging for someone to do it. It's like they were made for one another. Man, I remember people having intense 4-player matches with this game in college.

This. I actually looked into several games during my experimentation with getting NES games running on Unisystem hardware and I ran into a problem. The Unisystem only has the capability to run NES games that utilize the base level of memory (16k if I remember right?) without modifying the board to accept more/remap memory. Some Unisystem games actually did this from the factory like castlevania, and if I had access to a factory board or schematic for the addon board, I could probably mod a board to play SSVB, but sadly I have never come across a unisystem with one of said games in it in my ventures.

Thanks to @Lemony Vengeance , I was able to experience SNES, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, and Turbografx games on my Sega Blast City JAMMA cabinet. In converting these consoles over, I played through many games I played on console as a kid and most played better with the arcade joysticks vs. the console controllers. I did a full playthrough of games on SNES like Donkey Kong Country, LoZ LTTP, Super Metroid - and on Genesis I couldn't believe how natural Sonic the Hedgehog felt. In short, many console games feel great in an arcade setting except maybe turn-based RPGs.

As an inverse to this, Dragon's Lair would probably be more comfortable on console vs. the arcade given the style of the game. I have this title for Sega CD...has anyone done a full playthrough on both to comment?
I used to one credit the Sega CD version everyday after school for fun. I went back to it recently. It's a cakewalk compared to the arcade version and visually it's no comparison. I own the arcade game for reference. That being said, I always loved the Sega CD version and if it's all you have, it's still a fun game. It's just super easy compared to the real deal.

I sincerely liked Reactor from Gottlieb, and am looking (soft) for an Atari Quantum. I missed it when it was released, and have a great amount of regret.

I play it every time I find it.

I was going to say SSX and after some googling it looks like there might a version out now but it is very confusing. Has anyone seen it? Anyways it was a fun game.

Something that popped up in the "Overrated games" thread was talk about Pappa The Rappa being something that would work well in a dedicated cabinet. Joking or not, that reminded me of a spike I did a year ago where I wired a gameboy Into a spare Nintendo Vs panel I had to see how well Donkey Kong '94 played with actual arcade controls. Spoiler alert: Surprisingly well. So well in fact that if i ever get around to it I have some ambitions to build another scratch built cab with a custom art package. I know theres some work being done on fully colourizing the ROMs, its a shame the spiritual successor to DK never made it past a DMG cartridge.

Back in the day I also wanted to make a cab for the indie game Lovers in a Dangerous Space Time. Figured it would make a hell of a good arcade experience. That idea never got past the brainstorming phase but it got me wondering what other console or mobile games that would make solid arcade titles?

There was something similar to a dedicated upright but it didn't gain much popularity. Um Jammer Lammy NOW! arcade cabinet—the rare rhythm-game conversion of the PaRappa the Rapper spin-off that debuted in Japanese arcades, featuring a quirky controller setup and vibrant cabinet art.

I wonder what that does? It just looks like two jumper wires. It does say though, "will be compatible will ALL PAKs past and present." so idk. I will do some research.

Vs boards come set up for 2764s stock, so pins 1, 26, and 27 aren't used.

That's just wiring up pin 26 on a couple ROM sockets to use 27128s instead, bank switched with PA2 from the CPU.

5E:1 to 6D:26 --> PA2 on the sub side 2A03
4A:12 to 1D:26 --> PA2 on the main side 2A03

Games that use 2764s will ignore pin 26.

Yeah good call. I'm surprised these haven't been made tbh. Even with a simple art package in an HS-2 cab. Would be easy.

I guess maybe someone did do one, once? Kinda a perfect game for the arcades though, has a built in splash/attract screen already in doom. Plus it's doom, usually I play on an actual dos machine but I wouldn't mind playing on an arcade. Tank controls are fun, could also use a trackball if you're feeling extra sadistic.
