Back in the day it was a common thing to hear the sound of an arcade game beeing punched. I can remember some games just made my blood boil for any number of reasons.. poor programming, ridiculously difficult 'platform' screens, or just difficult overall...

I have not felt that feeling in a while but I must admit, that after lately beeing absolutely, utterly addicted to the amazingly simple Exidy Spectar... that in one game a couple nights ago, after about 20 games in a row, that my fist rose up and I had to turn my back... and then laugh that I actually had the feeling of punching the screen again...

What games from the classic era '77-'84 (what I consider the golden age of classics) bring back that 'punch the screen' feeling, but then soothe you with its colorful glow, its melodious sounds like a siren.. and bring you right back into her arms for more abuse?.. right back into that brutal love/hate relationship?

My older brother broke the bezel of a game at an arcade in his late teens. I'm not sure which game it was. He also punched a hole in the wall after playing Megaman3 on my NES at the time. It must run in the DNA because I broke several console controllers when I was around 9-12 years old.

I don't really get pissed at games too much anymore. I can get heated in 2D fighters vs. human opponents when they use some cheap whore characters like Makoto in 3rd Strike.

I've smacked the CP of my Frogger a few times when I have a good game going and get one of those mystery deaths -- a clear jump onto an empty log, and you die for no good reason.

Back in the Golden Age, my brother had a habit of hitting games and claiming that they were cheating him.

The guys on duty in the arcade constantly had to tell him to cut it out.

The only time I ever punched an arcade game was on the coin door when my quarter/token was stuck. Never punched a game in the monitor area. Poor games.

Not a vid or in that golden 80's era....but for me it's the Twilight Zone pinball. Maybe it's just that mine isn't quite up to snuff maintenance wise, but that thing seems to drain the ball way too easy, especially after making a skill shot! I've smacked the lockdown bar with my first more a few times lol.

no specific game. Just when I'm doing exceptionally well then manage to die from something really stupid. That get's me to raise my fist. I never hit a game though. Never did BITD either.

Berzerk. I swear at that game more than any other. It's usually from a diagonal shot I didn't see coming. Sometimes Tempest as well, as I am not sure how sometimes the rim guys get me, and sometimes I get them, it seems random, and it pisses me off.

I seriously wanted to this past Sunday while playing Championship Sprint. Holy cow, there are some megafrustrating elements to that game... Where the chopper keeps dropping you off in the same spot where you're guaranteed to keep dying over and over, trying to turn around, and it won't let you because the car is always moving, and the physics just don't allow it... I want to punch it right now, just thinking about it! :D

Defender can be deserving of a punch.

Centipede too.

Cursing at them will make you feel better, but it will convince others around that you are out of control...

It you don't have your foot on the gas, you shouldn't be moving... maybe the pedal/pot isn't quite right on yours? On mine if I take my foot of the gas my car comes to a complete stand still.

Oh, and I'm guessing you're talking about the chopper dropping your off right in front of the ramp in the upper right, and then you can't go fast enough to clear it...
