Games that are difficult even when set to Easy!!!

I would have to say Sinistar. I remember it being difficult in the arcades taking many quarters from me. I've had one for a while and my score is only getting worse.

Try pressing the first stage as much as you can by bombing the Sinistar as he is being built by the workers. You will attract more warriors and they will get nastier, the longer you stay on the screen and the closer you are to the non-built Sinistar, but you can rack up some good points that way in the meantime.

When you want the Sinistar built more quickly (because the warriors are a pain), make sure Sinistar is not on your radar as he is being built and he will be built more quickly. Conversely, if you want him to not get built as quickly, keep him on radar and the workers build more slowly.

Another good technique is to get very close to him just when the workers are one piece away from completing him. Once they do, bomb the shit out of him and you will not lose as many bombs proceeding to the next screen because they will not be wasted due to interception. ie) Don't be Brett Favre, don't needlessly gunsling your bombs.

Alot of the MK's are pretty tough, still have yet to beat one. Maybe thats just me. Alot of Williams games are also tough, arent they pretty much designed to eat quarters?

What games do you guys think are still difficult even with the Dips set to easy? Some I can think of are ironically Nintendo games that I own.......

Contra

Unfortunately the top three games in this list get the least play out of all my games when I have people over due to their difficulty.

You're kidding right? I though everyone could easily beat Contra on one credit. One of the easiest games I remember from BITD.

Alien Syndrome......that game can be ridicules. If you use the factory default settings you get only 3 lives for all 7 levels, and there is NO way to earn anymore, 3 lives is it. Even with this game set at easy with I think 7 or 9 guys(or infinite). It is still a hard game. Even with unlimited guys, on the last level it will only let you continue once. This was a game that I didn't care for at first, but once I got it restored and up and running with topper, I find myself playing it a lot at factory settings just for the challenge alone. Unfortunately, due to it's difficulty(and the annoying woman's screaming death noise), it gets the least amount of plays.

The other is Asteroid Deluxe(I'm not very good, but it's still a fun game)

and Circus Charlie, It's a cutesy game, but it will eat your quarters....but do to it's friendly looking nature. Mine gets played a lot, but really it can be a difficult game...

DK Jr. always seemed freakin' hard to me, still does. Maybe there's a pattern, but it was never a "walk up and play for a few minutes" game. I always got an immediate ass kickin'.

I started playing this again for the first time in a long long time. . . seems ridiculously hard compared to Donkey Kong.

Freaking Galaga 3/Gaplus. That game is so damn hard!! I've never heard my friends cuss at any of my games more than that one haha

I'm trying to get into that one by playing it on the Wii virtual console. Game length varies dramatically based on how into it I am. If I'm distracted at all, I get NOWHERE!

Love to play these games but I suck at most of them.
Defender
Stargate
Sinistar
Gravitar

Any laser disc game just sucked up my money, except Mach 3.

Those are the exact ones that popped into my head as well (I haven't played Mach 3, but I'd agree that laserdisc games are tough).

I love my Willow game. Its not too bad, but I'll admit it is hard. Haunted Castle isn't really hard, the controls just suck. Plus if you use the combining credits trick, its not too bad. More about remembering where all the monsters are, and making it past the hunchbacks. Oh, and if the rock golem isn't being a cheap bastard. Took me about 6 months of playing it on and off to finally beat that damn game.

Rygar would be No. 1 for me.

Nam 1975

Was playing it last night with the wife; forgot how impossible that game is to finish with just a "couple" of lives lost. No way anyone is beating that with one life.

Hard For Me

For me it's Jumping Games like Donkey Kong and Congo Bongo. DK2 and 3 are easy for me ... very little timed jumping.

Looping and Gravitar are very hard. I had both and practiced a long time. They are fun when you get the hang of it.

I love the graphics, but Dragon's Lair was a 30 second game for me.

Only one vote for Defender so far?? Wow, defender has to be one of the hardest games to master out of all the classics.
Dragons lair ate quite a few quarters back in the day simply because nobody understood how to play it. "hey, dont play that one. I think the joystick is broke!"

Sohchx if you are talking about the baby pac at crabtowne, yes that one is hard to play becuase its beat to hell and its only half assed working. You really have to understand the strategy of the game to do well at it. The trick is to stay in the pin section as much as possible to earn bonus multipliers, speed bonus and power pellets. Then once your back in the maze you can really rack up the points quick.
Qix is a challenging game for sure and keeps you coming back for more. Getting greedy on the bonus points is what kills me most of the time. Best I have done is 99% which I suppose is the best possible percentage.

My votes are as follows. I own these, except for Defender and Gravitar, and am getting better, but still find them difficult past the first few screens.

- Defender/Stargate
- Robotron
- Gravitar
- Tempest
