Games known for commanding stupid money, that you don't give a sh*t about

I agree about both Trons. Love the cabinets and the movies, but they really are candy-coated turds of games. Still...if they didn't command ridiculous money, I'd consider them for eye candy.

It is?

Shit. Okay, cuff me.

Tell me about it. You can't win for trying on this forum sometimes.

If you start a thread with a topic that's been covered already, you get bitched at for it. Yet if you comment on an old thread that's been dormant for a while, you get bitched at for it.

I thought this was a discussion forum. Are we not allowed to discuss? If you don't like the topic, you don't have to read or comment on it.

I almost posted this exact same thing. I was going to ask for someone to post a link to the "old" thread but then realized that I'd be committing a crime if I bumped it.

There's obviously a difference between bumping an old FS thread from years ago and bumping a discussion thread that's still relevant.

Oh well :)

A game that would make this list if it were readily available is Bouncer.
It wasn't as enjoyable as Tapper but kinda looked like it.

The lore with it not being found, is pretty awesome though.

This is a rehash of an age-old continuing saga.

Isn't this an evolving topic tho' ? Games that people overpay for will vary over time, or will it ??

Plus add in the distinction between collector games ( ie. rare & they suck but I want one because I'll be a L33T collector and I gotta have them all !!! ) and enthusianst games that sell for crazy money because of a cult following and they are pretty good eg. Star Wars.

I actually really enjoy these types of threads...no matter how often they come up.

Because I get to see everyone's opinions, preferences and personalities come through.

And like jrok said, the market is constantly evolving and I find it really interesting to see games increase in value... and WHY they increase in value.

I'm fascinated by the "one man's trash, another man's treasure" concept.

I have a list of about 5 or 6 games that baffle me why people want them at all, let alone for stupid money.

So rather than offend anyone by naming the specific games...it actually occurred to me that it doesn't really matter what the game is. Because any game that goes over $1000 is now on my "stupid money" list.

Everyone's budget is different, but my cutoff point is $1K. I love arcade games and I've already over-paid on a couple...but spending over $1K on ANY arcade game is getting into some delusional territory for me.

I know...Pinball collecting is NEVER in my future.

The more interesting divide in this sort of topic to me is how many people actually play the damn games..

In my experience the guys more likely to have to have the most expensive "collectible" games are the ones who play them the least.

This was very true when I was collecting pinball. Many people I knew who had the NIB Stern LEs and other crazy priced shit had like 50 plays on the machine after 6 months.

For allot of guys its just about who has the most expensive rare toy not about the game at all. This is how you can explain truly shitty games like Journey commanding stupid money.

Major Havocc
Quantum
Any laser game
Most Rockola games

On the other hand, I can't seem to find the following games with cash in hand:
Fully working Monaco GP
Space Zap
Gravitar

I own the following, but agree the pricing has gotten silly and would not buy at today's prices:
Tapper
Paperboy
Lunar Lander

Any game with a JROK multi-PCB is way overpriced. :001_stongue:
Give me real boards over "imitation" any day. That's just stupid sh*t. LOL :004_sbiggrin:

all pins

(yep, I said it. I might like'em, but just too expensive.)

This.

A pinball machine could have been stored in a barn for 12 years, have a family of badgers living inside of it, and currently be on fire, yet people will still ask $1500 for it.

really ... anything commanding over $500 (with a couple exceptions) even if it's in terrible condition

love the arcade hobby, but i've got way better things i can do with several hundreds dollars instead of buy a 30 year old crate full of wires

"8/10 some signs of use and wear, was working when put into storage".

Good god you're not supposed to play them !! It ruins their value !! :)

These people exist.

When Avengers Hulk LE pinball came out I went over to check it out at someones house. They spent the whole time telling me how these were going to be the "next Tron LE" and shoot up in value.

I was allowed to play it exactly once which since it was setup like shit lasted 2 minutes.

Punchline is that machine value actually tanked pretty hard, I think they go for way less then new now.
