As a young teen I played Spy Hunter any chance I got. I was never really good at it but loved the game.

In 2008 I found one on eBay locally, it was disassembled but I was sure I could get it back up and running. I got laid off, then found out we were having another kid, and sadly the game had to go. I never got to play the one I had.

An ad came up recently here for a SH cockpit, had it been a little closer I would have made the sacrifice and figured out a way to go get it, but it was not in the cards for me.

What game have you honestly tried to acquire for your collection, or even actually gotten one of, and then had to let it go?

note: I play the SH at Crabtowne every time I'm down there.

Pfff many, to many.

Back in 2000/2003 there were so many for sale on our Dutch version of craigslist, there even was a special category for arcade games which was removed/closed a few years later due to lack of ads/listings.
So think ya'll starting to get the picture for sure now.... I seen so many nice machines up for sale and I thought, nah I'll wait.

The one I regret the most was a Space Harrier upright that looked to be in great condittion.

For me I guess it would be Tron. I have had deals lined up, only to have the game sold out from under me. I was and still am not willing to pay anywhere near $1,000 for one, so I sit and wait patiently. Basically everything else I really wanted has come to me at a great price by waiting, so I will wait. I am not tore up over it, but it is the one game that still eludes me.

Star Wars. I've found a few on Craigslist over the last couple of years and called on them only to find some jack*ss from California has called and told them that these are really rare and they would gladly pay $3000 if they were closer. #$%$%

So one day, I'll see the ad before that puke from CA and I'll get one. Hopefuly for a lot less than his $3000.

Took me ages to find my Spy Hunter and now I am selling it to move.

Took ages to find my Tron but I'm keeping that.

Still want to find a Krull and an Ice Cold beer (or Zeke's peak) someday but I can wait.

Super Hang On. Years ago I got a project one, repainted all the white plastic, put on new grips, got it working but it never got into the gameroom. Someone showed up to buy a game from me, saw the Super Hang On still in the garage and offered a fair price for it so I let it go. I thought it was no big deal I would pick up another one at auction someday. I regret that and have not found another for a good price that was close to St. Louis.

I eventually regret selling every game I part with, but when you have 10-20 games you don't have the space for, nor the money or the time to get in shape, it's time to let some stuff go.

Stuff I've sold in the past I'd love to have back:

Atari System I cab + kits for IJ and MM
Baby Pac-Man
Battlezone
Champ Sprint
Donkey Kong w/ D2K (brother has it, think he is getting over the game though)
Millipede (may get it back, is at a friend's house and he won't want it forever)
Night Driver (cockpit x 2)
Spy Hunter (UR)
Stargate
Super Off-Road
Super Pac-Man (especially now that the stencils can be had, my brother has it now so may or may not get it back someday)
Tempest
Vindicators

Sigh... shit like this is why I'm having trouble selling any more games right now, too - I just can't get past the dream of owning a house with a epic gameroom that makes any real arcade I've ever stepped into pale by comparison. Maybe if I eBay all my console and JAMMA stuff I can get somewhere. :/

Star Wars... I physically can't fit one into the doorway of my house (hence the collection of largely cabaret machines you'll see in my sig.)

I can't for the life of me find a decent PiU. Everything I find is either really new and actually worth the thousands they're asking that I can't afford, or ancient but they're STILL asking $thousands and won't back down. One particular machine that pops up on eBay every month is a DX that's MISSING HALF THE CABINET INCLUDING THE MONITOR and they STILL want $2.5k for it. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!

Hate to sound like a broken record but I'll have to add another "Star Wars" to the thread. :(

I have *NEVER* seen one for sale locally. I have *NEVER* seen one on Craigslist or eBay within a 4 hour drive for what I would call "decent" money. I have missed out on a few that I was made aware of after they sold... but I just can never hit the "No Whammy" button on Star Wars. :(

I have been fortunate to find most of my grails over the years (still have many), but the Bubbles mini and Xevious cabaret still evade me. If we are talking arcade related, then throw-in the Tempest poster too (original).

Other grails: Quartet (sold), Star Wars 9 (have), Satan's Hollow mini (have), Star Wars:Episode 1 pin (have)

Only 2 games I'm actively looking for that seem to elude me are Mad Planets and a Funhouse pinball. Like someone said before, I can't bring myself to pay the prices people think they can get for these machines. Mad Planets is pretty rare and would fetch a decent price. But, Funhouse is all over the place and people are asking 3k+. Just cause' some rich, daddy gives me everything, moron pays 6k for one, everyone thinks they're all worth that much.

It has to be Time Traveler for me; owned one for about 15 minutes this summer but had it sold as part of a necessary 3 way deal. Then another one locally pops up, the seller and I discuss potential trades, trades + cash, etc; I said, "no matter what, don't sell it, I'll pay your asking price, just let me know what you decide on the trade proposal".

He sold it that afternoon.....@#!*

For the longest time it was Star Wars for me too, an eBay deal went south after being reclassified in transit and arrived with a couple hundred more due in freight, then the machine turned out to not be as described.

Then I get a tip that one is at an estate sale, looks HUO so I camp out on the front steps starting around 6 am. I go in, and it's sold, bad news. Good news! It was bought by a friend of mine and eventually I work out a deal for it. Beautiful burn-free Amplifone baby!
