you could frost your glass. i did that in my basement it still lets the light in and keeps people from seeing what you have. its pretty cheap and you just spray it on or get real fancy and get that mirror tint
 
I used frosted film on my arcade window. Nice for letting light in but blocking the view.
 
So I've put blinds up, and as I've tinkered with adding the plywood to cover the opening, my wife's now telling me she doesn't think she'll like the plywood up there. Initially I was told I could do whatever I want out there..

Yup. Evil stuff.

Go to Home Depot, and buy their el cheapo-iest metal mini-blinds. I've seen them for $10 there before. And they will cut it down to whatever size you need. Done.
