LOL, more T-MEK talk!
grin.gif
I had eight people over tonight, 4 girls, 4 guys... loaded 'em all up on beer and pizza, and we (us 5 guys) moved the T-MEK into my garage, what a biatch!! Now its outta my way (for now), and I can part it out to Fiskbit and get the proto's nicer!! As far as hauling a T-MEK. I have a 2002 Dodge Ram Fullsize, 8 foot bed (longbed) T-MEK will not fit widthwise, and must be seperated and hauled pieces lengthwise like in my pic. With the tailgate down thats 10 feet, and the T-MEK almost the tip of my tailgate. I honestly don't think you could fit another game in there with it, just not quite enough room. Lifting this thing into the back of a truck is a super pain in the ass! Get ready to hurt you and 3 or 4 other friends backs! I can give you official measurements, but its a squeeze moving T-MEK in a fullsize longbed pickup. A standard bed pickup may not even do it... trailer would be a logical way to move a cab of this magnatude!

I actually had little trouble moving the things with a trailer. Getting the T-MEKs onto the trailer was actually pretty easy; as long as what you're moving them onto is low to the ground, this isn't much of a problem. Just lift one end on, then the other. I have to move all 3 T-MEKs soon, and doing so is going to be a pain mostly because I'm not sure all 3 will fit on the trailer. Just be sure to load/unload the T-MEK on level ground. If the ground isn't level, you'll get a runaway T-MEK running you down...

Oh, and FullThrottle, you know what panel on the seat section I need, right? I'm not sure how clear "the back panel" is to anyone other than me.
tongue.gif
This picture is of one of my protos, which is missing the panel I'm talking about. Thanks.

You told us the length of your truck bed, but what about the width? I know some trucks use a smaller width bed than others.....

Yeah, the width is what really matters here as a few inches could make a world of difference.

Yes, I saw it last night when you posted it here the first time. It was deleted shortly after (perhaps the timestamp on the ad and yours here (last night) were a little too close? Hmmm

Search the games/toys section of Houston CL often?

No worries, no hard feelings to the prankster. Everyone needs a good laugh

so where are you at with this matt
after reading this thread a couple of times, it seems you have the money for the game, and just need funds for transport (or to put towards fuel costs to someone else)
im gonna put my foot in it here but it seems to me matt you just need to have a chat with modessitt about his BATTLEZONE
being as that is jamesburns holy grail game (if i read this correctly) and shatter1 doesnt want to sell his at the moment
blush.gif

then after your chat modessitt swaps BZ for jamesburns tmek AND congo bongo (assuming thats a fair trade?)
then modessitt delivers game to you matt as part of the deal for no extra cost, you pay him $450 and get your holy grail
jamesburns gets his holy grail
modessitt gets his congo bongo for less than he wouldve paid and $450 in his pocket to boot
laugh.gif

otherwise if youve got the money to pay for the game, just buy it and post a message on the main arcade section (or i will) looking for transport help/ideas
will it work or does it make any sense, who the bloody hell knows
grin.gif

its late, im tired after single handedly moving about 60 games (so far), my body is starting to shut down and hallucinations cant be that far off
crazy.gif

i am also happy to donate $20 to the cause, especially as i will be expecting to see a photo of you standing next to your holy grail and SMILING about it

I believe he's trying to find the funds at the moment, but is also job hunting. Extra money is usually hard to come by when job security is tenuous.

Done that already....

Well, James has offered to bring the BZ all the way as he considers BZ worth more than CB, but I don't think it's be worth both CB and T-Mek, and driving.....

While this idea seems great to me (of course), it's more like a pipe dream, I would think. That would imply that James considers BZ to be worth $675 (his asking price for CB and TM) plus gas/trailer rental. I doubt it.

otherwise if youve got the money to pay for the game, just buy it and post a message on the main arcade section (or i will) looking for transport help/ideas

I've already offered transport help. The only question is fitting TM & CB into the back of my truck if I meet James somewhere. Now, if a deal gets it to Austin directly, then I can get it to Houston with no problem.

Well, that explains the pipe dreams....

Well, as mod said, I'm looking for a job while knowing I've only got about a month left at my current one. Money is horribly tight considering the car situation, too (still don't have the new car because of legal issues and my current one, of course, started effing up right when I should have gotten my other one). I just had to pay $300 to fix crap wrong with it just so it could be inspected
frown.gif
Still have a transmission check and new struts to go. Not to mention my part of rent coming up in about a week, which is at least another $300, but probably closer to $400. And, well, rent has to take priority no matter how good a deal I get on my holy grail
frown.gif
I mean, if I don't make rent, I have no where to keep the damn thing, right?

im gonna put my foot in it here but it seems to me matt you just need to have a chat with modessitt about his BATTLEZONE
Well, that's their thing, not mine. I suppose that would be the ideal situation for me, but if that were possible, I'm sure they would have set it up already.

Perhaps I can get a truck as well, or maybe just a trailer and we can see about splitting the t-mek up for the time being. I wouldn't mind making a trip back here and then back to austin to get the rest back...but we'll discuss the options later. I'll probably be emailing you this weekend, mod.

Matt? Smiling? I dunno......
Wow, you've only met me once and you've already figured that out! Guess it's that damn obvious. I suppose the Mii avatar and my Simpsons character pretty much give it away, too

Ok, some real measurements of my truckbed, '02 Ram Longbed
51" wide between the wheelwells.
57.5" wide between the bed rails.
10 ft. from front of cab to tip of tailgate down.
With a T-MEK, even seperated, there isn't alot of room for much else, realistically. A pickup truck with a trailer you'd have no problems doing both, or at least I wouldn't, but honestly, unless you've got some Tetris skills that I don't have, another cab won't fit! Me and AvidGeek loaded 5x games into the back of my truck, and that was tight tight tight on room! I'd say as loading and hauling things go, I can make stuff fit. Karl, load a T-mek and Congo Bongo in your truck... OK. But it wouldn't be pretty and something wouldn't be straight when I made it wherever I was going!
shocked.gif
Its the wheelwells that kill you when you're hauling large items, thats the key, the wheelwells!

Tetris-like... I was thinking, after seeing your pic of it in your truck, that the seat part could be padded and wrapped to ensure no damage occurred to it, then turned upside down and slid in next to the body. Put some padding between the two, also, then strap it all into place and it should work. Then there'd be room for a CB to sit upright behind the body and strapped against it. I think it should work.

Even if I had to go with the tailgate down, mine is a lift gate with a half-gate extension, so I'd have some more room. I've got about 10 straps currently, but would get a few more if I was going any great distance with the tailgate down.

Last time I moved games with the tailgate down, I had a Spy Hunter upright, Space Panic, Gravitar, and Computer Space in the back of the truck, and a Star Wars cockpit diagonally in the back with the tailgate down. Only had to go a few miles but I was a little paranoid about that Star Wars cockpit halfway onto the tailgate....

Hmm, interesting. Maybe someone with a T-Mek could take some measurements and make a judgment on that? If that would work, it could make things a hell of a lot easier.

Here's FT's pic of it in his truck. The top of the seat area is very narrow. It should fit if upside down. The trick will be seeing if the bottom would be too wide to easily fit above. Lots of padding would be required to make sure scratches, etc. woul;dn't occur. And we've gotta protect those monitors!

Even if we had to move it this way, it looks like the CB may fit next to the seat there on the right?

And so dies the dream!

I, of all people, completely understand the problems of needing to pay bills and take care of Real Life before spending money on "Fun" things. It just hurts so to see the Long-Sought-After so tantalizingly within reach when the money situation couldn't be worse. I have it happen to me all the time. I'm lucky I work in an arcade sales/service shop, or I wouldn't be able to afford any of the ones I've got.

So, we'll continue on a thoeretical basis, with the hopes that Matt may use some of this information in case the future is much kinder than the present....

I've been giving it some thought as to how to transport a T-Mek in a pickup and be able to include another game (and put the tailgate up.

With apologies to Matt, Here is a VERY rough example of the overall T-Mek shape:

T-Mek1.jpg

And it, of course is to big to fit side-by-side in the back of a standard long-bed pickup:

T-Mek2.jpg

But I think if the seat area is turned upside down (with ample padding) it can fit. My cheap paint program doesn't allow me to set it flush against each other, so use your imagination. With padding and lots of straps, it should work.

Now I better run before Jin smacks me......
