Games everyone hated that you thought were awesome...

Topping my list of games generally disliked by most but that I thought were awesome....
Capcom Bowling and Pacmania...
It seemed everyone hated these two back in their prime, but they were always two of my favorites to play at the local bowling alley.

Anyone else have any games they think are awesome but get little or no love from others?

Star Castle seemed to sit empty a lot, but I liked it. Make Trax, also. Now I think Make Trax sucks, but I would put a Star Castle in the game room if a nice one popped up.

I enjoyed Capcom bowling, granted it's odd paying a quarter to a play a game in an establishment that offers the real thing for a few dollars. Not busting your balls I did the same thing.

Arch-Rivals was one that all my buddies hated, but I enjoyed.

I like Pac-land, a nice change of gameplay from all the Pac-man type maze games. Also liked Make Trax and still do.

I also like Space Ace, which doesn't get much love around here.
Space Ace is another of my favorites. Never played that one in the arcades, but was surprised by it on the Digital Leisure DVDs :D

I was around 10 or 12 at the time...my folks played in tournaments, so while they were busy bowling, my younger brother and I were busy spending their change ;)
One bowling alley in particular...."Shamrock Bowling" had a lot of great games(Gauntlet, Golden Axe, Pacmania, Capcom Bowling, Ms Pacman, Centipede, Gorf, Q-Bert, DK, etc). :D

I don't think that DepthCharge or Carnival were big hits back then but I loved them and still do.

P.S. Capcom Bowling is a lot of fun.

Alot of people hate Donkey Kong 3 (including me in the past), but once you get past the fact that it's not a DK platformer type game, but a shooter that just happens to include DK, it's pretty fun.

I am a big fan of DK3 as well. Sure its not like DK or DKjr, but I would think shooter fans would eat this up. Very challenging once you pass like 200,000

Capcom Bowling is a very fun game IMHO and the dedicated cabs rock! I know most were conversions and I have wondered before if that contributes to some of the hate for it.

I can't even remember what kind of cab I played it on, but I do know it wasn't a dedicated cab(those look amazing). Definitely one of my favorite games of all time...

I'm going to go w/ the lineup of the Bally/Sente series. I know they don't get much love here, and back then, the one I only liked was Hat Trick. Now, I got a new fav of the series and that's Stocker.... It's too bad some of the rarer titles are the best ones!

Another one I l 'liked' and people really didn't care for (Laser aficinados) was Star Rider. Not sure why but love the "speeder bike" race theme, compound w/ visually beautiful backgrounds....

Stocker is awesome. I play the heck out of it in MAME. :)

When I was working at the mall I used to hit up the arcade during lunch. I always wanted to get on one of the two KI they had, but there was usually a line. Instead of walking away and possibly losing a spot in the limited time I had I would play the game right next to them. That game happened to be ataxx. At first it was just a time waster, but eventually it grew on me and it's one of the games on my wishlist. I really don't think I ever played against another person or had to wait to play it. I also like time killer and that's one of the least loved fighting games.
