I'm getting the basement finished, and am thinking of ceiling speakers. The room is about 350 sq ft, I figure 4 in the ceiling. Anyone have recommendations on them? I was thinking maybe 8" 3 way. Now is the time I have to do it, before drywall.

Keep in mind I like to rock...

I got these from Home Depot: http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc...splay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053 ... not the best sound ever, but they do the job. They sound pretty good at high volume, but the main purpose was to provide music in the arcade while still allowing you to hear the games... and they do that really well. I decided to buy them locally, just so I could return them if they sucked.

I'm not sure you need 4 speakers for 350 sq. ft though... I have a pair in each room in my arcade (one is ~400 sq. ft, the other ~250 sq. ft), and they fill the room with sound quite well. I'd probably worry more about sound quality than number of speakers, if you really like to rock. Also, be sure to follow the recommendations for insulating around them and stuff. It definitely helps sound quality, as well as reducing noise to the rest of the house.

What ever you get use a separate sub. If you have 4 8" speakers handling everything, It will vibrate like crazy and sound distorted based on that satanic crap you listen to. JK Devil Driver is awesome I saw them live about 5 or 6 years ago with Morbid Angel and Super Joint Ritual.

Gameroom speakers

I put some Bose bookshelf speakers in my ceiling, great sound. Plenty of kick

Then I have my oldschool Pioneer hooked up to some old school Sansui 7500 in the corner.

Nice set up I do say so

I've been pondering throwing some KRK Rokit Studio Monitors up on small shelves in the corners... not 100% sure but i'm thinking they should be plenty of bang.

I've heard mixed results with in wall speakers, so unfortunately i'm little to no help there. Subwoofer adds the most to a room so keep that in mind.

Thanks for the replies. As far as a sub, I like it but where to put it? If it's in the middle, I would think it would be really bassy standing under it. And then how would it sound in different areas of the room? I'm wanting to get consistent sound throughout the room. And maybe 4 speakers would be overkill. The room is 13'X26', maybe if I did 2 on the ends and a sub in the middle?

sub could go under a bench seat, or if you have a pinball machine those are perfect :D 5 speakers would fill the room much better than 2 and would allow you to keep the music lower yet still be able to hear it on every end of the room. (unless you put them in the middle of the 2 longest walls).
