Ok if I can only have a building 16' x 20' (320sqft). How many average sized games can I fit in there without being too cramped? Building size can change slightly, but no larger than 320sqft.

Figuring 10 along each of the 20 foot walls, and then an island of two rows back to back down the middle, roughly 38-40.

They would be too cramped to play like that. Seriously. Most games are about 3 feet deep, so 4x3 = 12 feet would leave 4 feet for the two aisles, or 2 feet between games.

If you're only ever going to go in the game room by yourself and play, then have at it. Or if you're just planning to store games.

If you want a usable space, it's more like half of that number. I have a 20x20 garage, and the most I've had set up in there and comfortably playable (where people can get around and get to all the games, regardless of which games are being played) is about 18 to 20. Right now I've got 17 - all around the edges with a cocktail in the middle - and that works out very comfortably.

Also bear in mind that if you crunch too many games in and the one in the back breaks, you've got to remove 9 games to get it out to fix it. With a more reasonable setup, you can pull the one game right out into the middle of the room and work on it without moving any of the others.

On each side and an island of cabinets with a 16' width would be very tight back-to-back.

Better to put the cabinets along the 16' wall, and have the room be 20' wide.

I would say most games are 24.5 to 26 inches, so you're looking at slightly over 2ft per cab width. It would be better to put them along the 16' walls, so you can get 7 games per wall. That way you can have a back to back double row island. You are looking at 4 rows then. One along the 16', double row island in the middle and another row along the other 16' wall. At approximately 3' deep per game, 12' subtracted from 20' gives you 8' of aisle space. With 2 aisles, you have 4 feet of space between each row. You will probably keep the island rows at only 6 games each row to give yourself a walkway.

Total would be 1st row on wall (7 games), 2nd row island (6 games), 3rd row island (6 games), 4th row on wall (7 games) You can get in 26 games and have some walking space with that layout.

If 4' of aisle space between games is not enough then remove one of the rows in the island. That gives you 20 games then.

Zud, square footage is gonna disappear real fast.

In the simplest scenario, you'd obviously want align most your one player cabs along the two opposing walls. Yet even if you just did this, you'd fit 8 cabs comfortably, not 10. However, most likely you'd want to mix in some bigger cabs or multiplayer cabs at the corners, in which case I'd get a total of 6 standard cabs nice and tight and one big cab per side.
After throwing cockpits, cocktails, or maybe a couple islands in the center, you'd maybe only fit 5-8 more cabs.

Based on this layout, I can fit 16 along the walls and another 4 in a working center.

magic number for a healthy layout: 20

See pic. And please don't make me slap you for not using Sketchup in the first place. ;)

8-9 along each 20' wall (they tend to be 25" or so + you need room between each game)... 16' would be hard to put a 2 sided aisle down the middle of... I have 12' and there is no way. I'd say you could stick a single aisle of 7-8 down the middle, maybe alternating sides as you go down... you also need a walk way at each end so you're looking at conservatively 8 + 8 + 7 = 23.

Yeah, I wasn't thinking straight - was using a 2' square as a rough guide. Even then, I should have noticed that 20' isn't 24'. :)

I have an autocad program, but wanted people to chime in with what they have. I am sure there would be enough with a similar layout. Thanks guys.

On a side note, the wife is open to an addition to the house, so if I do that, I would have approximately 800 sqft for my gameroom. Plus she would have space her craft room, an exercise room, and outside stairs to the basement. :D

My arcade

My arcade is roughly 15x30 and the first 10 of the 30 is for a couch and 1 vid ( Journey on wall by itself..) The other 15 x 20 holds 9 vids up each side and 2 cocktails in center.. Here is a few pics. Still have room 2 walk down on each side of bench and cocktails..

Well I see your problem, it's that damn Tapper cocktail. Send that to me and it will solve your space issue. :p

Cocktails are cool and I would have more of them.... but you need multiple rooms or a 60 ft long gameroom to make good use of them..I would much rather have a nice upright Tapper though..Come over to WV and put some cash in my hand and take the tapper home with ya....haha
