Awesome news. Just got off the phone with ComEd (Illinois) and if I want to increase from 200amp service to 300amp service, there will not be any additional charge to me. :D

So that means I do not have to worry about adding all the new circuits I want to add.

Well...nothing extra from them. You still have to pay an electrician to upgrade your panel (you can't just start sucking 300 amp through a 200 amp panel!). Unless you ARE an electrician, of course.

I'd like to see that light show! :D

Yeah they will be adding another panel in the basement and one in the shed. I was just glad I can get more amps added for nothing. Maybe I should just double the 200amps to 400amps and be all set for no matter what I do at my place. :p

It's probably not that much more for the panels, and pretty much nothing extra for the electrician. Unless there's a limit from the power company for some reason, you might as well put the panels in now and be done, if you think you'll need the power in the future.

Heck, even if you don't get 400 amp service now, put in oversized panels that will take the larger load. That way it's much simpler to further upgrade in the future.

The only thing you're gonna have to worry about is how to pay the electric bill!

Two 200A panels are common in my other hobby(see here). Although I haven't gotten to the point of "needing" them power wise, there are only soo many wires you can and should put into the panels. I'm also looking into the bump up to 400A but I know for a fact it isn't free in my area. :( You're getting a great deal! :D

I couldn't find a video, but I'm reminded of Smithers and Burns, looking out over the city and laughing at everyone using their expensive electricity...that'll be ComEd after your upgrade :D

I'm sure Com Ed is smiling too and encourages you to go to 400A :D:D

Best of luck with the additions...

Bill

Yeah that is pretty cool.

I'd like to get one of those Large knife switches to use to turn on all 30+ games at once. Someone else on here had that and I thought it would look cool.

Yea all the sparks flying look cool when you turn it on under full load. Just make sure your standing in a bucket of water while you do it to add to the effect. :D

Better yet, once you get the breaker box, put the breakers in skipping every other slot that way your phasing isn't balanced and you'll get to see your whole neighborhood dim when you turn the games on.

Brownouts are awesome.

Reminds me of a gamenight some friends of mine had. This was a few months after THE September 11th. I think it was 15 -17 of us. We all bring in our PC's, monitors, powered sound, etc. Plug all that in and started playing computer games from 3pm to 2am! Neigbors must have thought we were plotting something. :p
