Gameroom electricity needs

If you could wire the whole game room from scratch, would you use 20amps circuits instead of 15amps? I know the 20amps would cost a little more. Just asking.

If I had space in the box for the breakers, I'd go for multiple 15 amp circuits with a small number of outlets on each one. If I didn't have space for the breakers, I'd go for 20 amp circuits, and more outlets on each circuit.

I'd prefer the 15 amp thing for a couple of reasons:
Fewer games per circuit means that anything going wrong on one circuit isn't going to affect as many games at one go. I'm thinking things like a game shorting and tripping the breaker, but this also applies to electrical noise issues.

If I have fewer games on a circuit, I'm less likely to run close to the edge on the load limit.

15 amp outlets are the most common thing around, so in the future if someone ends up replacing an outlet without paying attention, they'll almost certainly grab a 15 amp outlet. That means that if I use 20 amp circuits, there's a small possibility they'll be setting themselves up for trouble. Now one can legitimately say 'well that's their problem', and be absolutely right. But I've been doing software (and trying to keep my co-workers out of trouble) for so long now that I inherently think in terms of 'how is the next dipstick going to screw this up, and can I make it less likely he'll kill someone?'. Proof positive that software DOES make you weird.

I would tend to agree with the members suggesting two 15 amp circuits. Considering your overall investment in games I would purchase a multimeter with a fork end. You can get one for under $100 that will check the amp draw of a circuit simply by positioning the fork over the feed wire (or any wire). Start by checking each machine or one if that's all you have then multiply by 10 and add a 10% factor for variance. Also as mentioned make sure to size your wire with your breaker and outlets. If in doubt call your local inspector, advice is free and you should really pull a permit anyway. Good luck.

I ended up going with 12 gauge wire, a 20 amp breaker, and 6 - 20 amp outlets. All I need is carpet and the arcade will be open. I can hardly wait!! Thanks for all the great advice. I will post pictures when completed.

In the process of expanding my arcade.

I also went with 12 gauge wire, 20 amp breaker and 4 outlets. I have a mix of pins and vids now.

After this project, its time for the Sauna, it'll get its own 15 amp breaker (required) and 12 gauge wire.
