I'd love to buy it but not at that price point. I have bought these types of digital archives before and they usually run $50 for about 20 years worth of magazines. To me, $50 is reasonable $150 is not. Maybe the price will go down over time.

I would also love a copy if I could get it for less. $50 would be a no-brainer for everyone on these forums.

has anyone bought this yet and might be interested in selling it for less? ;)

You're, of course, suggesting someone sell you their ORIGINAL copies, right? I mean to even insinuate that someone COPY theirs and SELL that copy to you is pretty douchetastic considering that Kevin Steele, the owner and publisher of Gameroom Magazine is a good guy and that would be ripping the food off the guys table since Gameroom IS his job... right?

Agreed. Gameroom are the good guys. I hope to be featured in there some day :)

I think that's why he is pricing it at $150 - in case people copy it. Personally, my price point for purchasing this would also max out at $50. Maybe we should start a pre-order petition and send it off to Kevin?

:)

They have $10 yearly ones as well if you don't want to shell out $150 at once. I think I'll have to pick this up. DVD browser looks pretty good too.

Now I just need to get Nintendo to do a Nintendo Power Digital archive and I would be set.

For sure! I know that dealing with arcade stuff is a job that doesn't have such a huge following, so those guys depend on every single customer. I'd never try to rip off / harm anyone - sorry if my posting might have sounded otherwise! Nevertheless, 150 bucks is still too much for my blood, I'd take it for 50 in a heartbeat!

I think $50 is a decent price point, especially to generate revenue on issues no longer in print. I would think even at $50 people wouldn't be so eager to make copies.

I think it all depends on how many DVD's are needed for the whole collection. Perhaps it's multiple DVD's requiring a lot of time and effort to reproduce?

EDIT: Nevermind, it does say 1 disc...

IIRC, Kevin personally scanned all of the back issues. Then you have to edit them, etc, etc. Sounds like a lot of time and effort to me.

I am fairly sure Kevin did all of the work himself, he is a one man operation as far as I know.

I am also sure it was a lot of work and if he created a front end or search engine for the DVD tht would have added to his work load as well. However, this is still a factor of the supply/demand curve. At the current price point many fewer people will be willing to buy it and the chances of it being pirated are greater.

kevin told me that there won't be a special dvd discount offer any time soon and that everyone interested in something cheaper should get the $10 volumes :(

i guess this either means getting the dvd for 150 bucks or not getting the dvd at all - right now i choose option 2!!!

Wish I could give him the $150 for the dvd. I'd love to have one based on what I've heard about the quality of his magazine. I also think it's important to support guys doing work for the hobby. However, I just don't have that much for it. $50 would have been great, but count me out for full price too!

even if he only sells 100 copies at 50 bucks a pop i would think thats more than enough compensation for scanning back copies of a publishing hes already made money on one time around. 150 bucks is waaaay too much for 1 dvd no matter what is on it.

Says the guy with nothing invested and no time spent on it :)
