GameGavel.com reaches out to its crowd via Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign

Well, we are trying the crowdfunding route and feel we have a pretty compelling model for moving forward, accelerating our growth and improving GameGavel. Check out our Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign here and help us to continue our goal to become the #1 auction alternative for gamers.

Currently, GameGavel is the only video gaming dedicated auction site in existance, and to date is the single most successful dedicated gaming auction site to take on the large corporate auction site.

Then why do you need to ask for donations?

Since nearly all of our 6000 members have been gifted a lifetime of free selling on it, and the site is selling a few thousand dollars each month of which we see no income, it is the most successful dedicated gaming auction site so far for the users which makes me happy but we really need to start making some money for the business and the crowdfunding option is a way of trying to do that.

And we really arent taking donations here. We are essentially having members prepay for a period of free selling which can be used to offset the donation. And the perk donation amounts if used are actually cheaper than our standard monthly subscription plans. They are getting something in return.

You really need to reach out to mainstream gamers to have a successful crowd funding event. You should try joystiq or kotaku. Maybe they can do a story?

I have bought a few times at gamegavel.com and listen to Retro Arcade Radio on Live365; it's a very good resource and I have to say I would pay a percentage to sell, and even a percentage to buy on the site. No problem. Heck, eBay hits you at auction and at forced PayPal. But I can't see donating a significant dollar amount since I only buy occasionally; I would rather pay a percentage against what I buy or sell than donate for an amount I may never match in terms of transactions. Please don't take this as a negative; I am a fan of the site. I have a few very treasured items in the collection I got from the site.

I think this is the perfect place to post something like this. Kickstarter has a fraud problem and while KLOVers can be tough, we need KLOV to vet opportunities like this one. My suggestion for GameGavel would be to add an advertising option to the lineup in order to encourage past partners (or potential advertisers ;) ) to support your growth. My question for GameGavel is if we give you a $100,000 check, how are you going to spend it to move past a going concern?

Opened game site, Trend Micro AV blew up with JAVA_EXPLT.DEJ either it came from there or sharethis.com which it stalled trying to load.

This happened when going to GameGavel? Can you post a screen shot of the messages you got? I have not had anyone else mention this to me.

I'm considering donating. But first I have a question. Of all the 6000 signups over the last 4 years, how many have logged in in the last 30 days. Secondly, how many unique visitors have been on the site in the last 30 days.

Critical mass for auction sites is very, very difficult to achieve. Look, for example, at ecrater.com. It's a great site and I actually generate sales off it, but I don't know a single person in the real world that has even heard of it.

Egad, I looked at the game stuff on that website. Couldn't find a single arcade game listed at a reasonable price. Cheapest I found was $1000 for a conversion game (there were a few of those).

That is the problem when you make a website free to list. It gets filled up with dealers listing things at ten times the going rate with a 7 word description.

Yes, the only other pages I had open were gmail and KLOV. I'd give you a screen cap but I'd rather not go back, I had to restart my machine last time. What I do remember though, when your site was loading, there were a ton of other URLS trying to load.. not sure what the heck that is all about, but if not from your site itself its from someone you're linking to or loading from. Not being a dick or anything, just trying to give a shout out on a possible issue that definitely affected me when loading the page.

I use AVG Antivirus and it found something on my first attempt to open the page , now it opens fine as whatever it was has been handled .

I signed up at Gamegavel today and it didn't feel arcade friendly . During sign up there was no option to choose affiliation with KLOV among the other choices . I went to the arcade catagory and found that there were several pcb's listed only . I don't know where the previous poster found a $1000.00 dollar cab . I will continue searching and try to find a way to browse the listings . Ebay forced me to add a way to fund automatic refunds today and that left a sour taste in my mouth as it was already unbalanced in the buyers favor .In any case i plan on listing a few smaller arcade items to see how it goes .
