Just curious about which machines you think are the most complicated or complex. Granted I don't play it terribly often, but I can't ever seem to grasp what the heck I'm doing when playing The Simpsons Pinball Party. What machines stump you?

Lord of the Rings.
Never watched the movies...do not understand the character names...
Played it quite a few times and started to learn the flow, however, the game is just tough for me! (shot-wise)

TSPP has it hands down no contest.

LOTR is #2 for sure. The only thing that's hard to understand on LOTR is exactly in what order you have to obtain/complete things to get to Valinor.
Otherwise (excluding Gollum and shotting the ring for ring frenzy collection) it's pretty much complete all ring modes by shooting lit shots and complete movie multi balls to get to DTR. Completing ring modes gets you a gift from the elves which is collected at Barad Dur. Once all ring modes are completed you get to TABA (there and back again) whihc you collect all the points made off the modes you completed. Once all gifts are collected you then are awarded Super Duper ring frenzy ( I think that's what it's called) and whoa nellie do you rack up points off that.

It's not terribly hard to understand, but it's hard as hell to beat. In fact second to TSPP :)
LOTR is excellent at lighting the shots necessary

Simpsons is the deepest, but it's also very organic...

-Shoot TV to start a mode on the board (shoot right orbit to relight TV)
-Mode explanations are on the DMD
-Complete all modes for Alien Invasion
-Shoot couch 3 times for Couch Multiball
-Itchy & Scratchy saucer behind drop tragets starts I&S Multiball (collect all 4 'episodes' for Scratchy's Revenge)
-Otto lights up a 2x scoring (collect all 2x Scorings for Mystery Spot)
-Comic Book Guy starts Hurry Ups (collect all for Secret Stash)
-Left orbit collects Cletus' kids (all 27 kids starts Pretzel Multiball)
-Ramp shots qualify Left ramp for Treehouse of Horror

That's all you really need to know! :)

Funny you mention LOTR. That's the current machine I've been obsessing over lately. Can't get enough! Was just telling Dave the other day that I'm pretty sure The Two Towers multi-ball is hands down my favorite multi-ball of all time.

The only TSPP I play is at a local arcade and the only real gripe I have about it is that the translite is so bright that I can't see the back half of playfield, just the reflection of the translite. Is that common for that game?

they make a glare guard out of plastic the just slides in between the guide and pf glass to correct this

I'm a huge LOTR nerd, so that game naturally draws me in, but man..does that thing have some of the best audio callouts for multiball starts ever or what? My wife and I both play Lord of the Rings Online, we've been going back and watching the extended editions on Blu-ray since we picked the up from Amazon on the cheap last week, it's fun to point out all the crossovers between LOTR movies and pinball and the online game, lol.

Only if all the lights are burnt out which IS common for that game on location. Shopped out, clean, with all working lights...the game is bright as hell! All lights working + glareguard and you're in business.

Here's a couple of shots I just took of the TSPP at Castles n' Coasters. That reflection makes it really tough to see what's going on back there.

Dang that is really bright. The one I played ins't like that.. I wonder what is up?

Ok, so it's common knowledge that TSPP, LOTR and TZ have deep rulesets. Other people also say MM has a deep ruleset.

Let's talk about what games are further down on the list? How about people make a top 10 list?

* Shadow? I haven't played it enough to know, but where does it fit on the list?

* RFM? I think it may be the longest game with the most modes - even more than TSPP but it's not as "deep" as it is linear.

* AFM? Not as deep as RFM?

* Whitewater? - I don't consider this to be a deep game, but it is a long linear game

I don't know a whole lot about many of the modern Sterns because I haven't played them as much but some games like BION and SM seem deep?

Thoughts? What's your top 10 list?

Spiderman has a lot of modes. Ive never even come close to finishing all of them, not even the one game I had like 150 mil score. Its such a fast game its hard for me to slow down and take a look at the necessry shots to adance.

I watched someone really good playing this at a show... I was initially amazed by how much different stuff was coming up on screen, but it did look like he was just making the same couple of shots a bunch of times.

I was always blown away by the display on these and couldn't imagine how anyone could say the game itself was kind of weak. Seeing it played by someone who really knew the game made me understand why some people don't like it. It appeared very repetitive.
