Would it be worth considering to have FAQs in this section that were broken down by specific game names? Then you could see the most common questions that were asked regarding each specific game? I am definitely one of those type-first search-after people so I don't know how much this idea would help, but I just wondered if it would be something of assistance to others.

I could see this working if it was based off of the "type" of game. For instance Taito Classic boards or switching power supplies.

However, I could see it being a huge problem, further confusing newbs, if we list it as 'Pac Faq' and someone puts monitor data for a WG but the newb unknowingly is working on a G07.

I guess what I am saying is I really like component specific data, instead of categorized by game name. It is less confusing for me and easier to search.

This would be FAR better suited for a wiki entry than a faq.

I think he may have meant KLOV starting their own wiki. there's wikis out there besides wikipedia.org :)

I think it's a fantastic idea. I can't believe how many threads I've been in on here where I've said "there should really be a sticky covering this stuff" but it can't ever happen.

perhaps an FAQ could be done with a disclaimer saying that original monitors, controls, power supplies, etc. may have been replaced with contents different than the original manufacturer.

The easiest thing is to do a search for repair logs, then see if anything is listed there that is similar to your problem. There are quite a few different ones around for common games (like the famous Pac-Man page), including these:

http://www.2coinsperplay.com/Tech/Video/Video.html (this one sometimes works and sometimes doesn't, so if it doesn't now, check back another time or two)

And one of our members (can't remember offhand) here posts logs over on www.newlifegames.net

Also, many game manuals include some type of troubleshooting info (although not always helpful).

As for monitors, there is plenty of info out there for anyone who cares to looks for it....

I've noticed that the problems I have had trouble with either aren't posted or end with "have you tried a cap kit" followed by
"yes, didn't help. Any other ideas? Anyone.......Anyone....?
