Game Spacing

I know this can be a wide option for people, but I am looking for general ideas. I know we are bigger today then when were kids. :p

What I am looking to get is how much play space do you leave in front of the game.

Option 1 is no space to walk behind someone.
Option 2 is just enough space to squeeze behind while they are playing.

Let's assume a 190-200 pound person for this experiment.

My guestimate is 2' minimum. 4' If you want to squeeze by. What do you guys have on average for your games? I am starting to finalize my layout since construction starts next Monday on my gameroom. I will pack it full, but want to make sure it does not seem over crowded. :)
 
If you have cockpits, it helps because you can put those lengthwise opposite a row of games without worrying about leaving enough space for people to stand at them. In this pic, I'm doing this on the right side with the Spy Hunter sitdown. In the front aisle I have enough room to squeeze by if there are people playing the 720 AND the Arkanoid at the same time. You'll also noticed I put the big fat Point Blank on the end so it lines up with the PP cockpit, where nobody has to stand and play.

Spacing in aisles where games face each other is about 4.5', on the aisle where spy hunter is, it's about 3.5'.

There's an average human model somewhere in sketchup. I grabbed that and scaled it up by like 10% and lined them all up to get an idea of the room. It'll be tight, but they can get by.

As a General Rule, I always allow 2' per game. So if you have two games opposite each other, there would be 4' between them.

It's a tight squeeze at times, but it has worked well over the years.

That is what my thoughts are.

You've seen my space. 4' seems like a lot of unused floor space. I say call the space "warehouse raid" and make people climb up and over to get to the game they want to play :)

Yours is like a warehouse raid.

In the back part of the "U" you can get trapped if everyone is playing around there. :rolleyes:

You have what, 2-1/2 feet between faces of games?
 
That is what my thoughts are.

IMO 4' is a mandatory. 5' is preferred if space allows. This is especially important when opposing rows face one another. If you don't have the 4', then you can't casually stand back far enough from certain games and visually see and admire the rows and kickplate art.

Well now 5' sucks. Who admires kick art now adays? :rolleyes:

I guess I will bring my games down 1 by one and see how they fit in the space. If I can bring an extra 1 or 2 later one I will. :D

Of course, you really should use the sketchup program to verify the space before doing all the luggin'.

I am doing that, different program though. Trying to do a rough sketch on paper before I use the program.

I cannot seem to get the games to fit in a decent manor while still having a "cool" looking layout. :cool:

One layout I get 28 and another layout 25. Plus 4 pins in either case
 
The fronts of these games are 4 feet 8 inches from each other. It is the perfect distance for 2 people to play back to back, leaving enough room for someone to comfortably walk between them:

Looks like I will max out at:

1 - Air Hockey Table
4 - Pins
1 - Dartboard
1 - Cockpit
24 - Uprights
1 or 2 - Token Machines
1 - Slot Machine

I might be able to squueze 2 more uprights, but I will have to wait till the space is complete. I am working off the rough dimensions I drew up while allowing space for walls.
 
Well it looks like I will go with 3' between games. That is the minimum I will go in any one area. Here is a picture of what it will look like. Of course I need the walls built first. :rolleyes:
