game sounds that just never sounded right to you?

I hate the screeching sound in 1942, and the "whining horse" sound in Twin Eagle. Those sounds are annoying and continous throughout the games!

Xevious and Phozon have background NOISES (couldn't really call it music) that get really grating after a while. Tower of Druaga's walking sound is also maddening. Also the pill-munching sound on Ms Pac Man at normal speed gets obnoxious (probably only because I grew up on the fast-chip version though).

Also, I think the qualifying sound is worse than the prepare to qualify sound. "CRNGWADAHRASHINS WOO QWUAWIFRIED TOE WASHE!"

The sound of your own death in Millipede is terribly distorted and "off".

That's one of my favorite arcade sounds, ever. It's distorted on the 60-in-1 board - otherwise, I think it's awesome.

One that I can't "hear" is the net sound in Zoo Keeper. Because it looks more like a frying pan, the programmers said they tried to make it sound like one. Nah.

Well here's another one...

In Karate Champ, not only are the sinsei's vocal's the pits, but what is that noise he's making right before your time is up in your game, after you've lost a match? You just hear this "HUP!" for no reason whatsoever. It's right around the time your final score is shown, before the attract mode kicks in again. Just another odd one.

I don't know that one. I know "Stop! Judge!", but not that one.

(OH, wait...I do know the sound you're talking about. It's like "HOUTT!" That's supposed to be a karate chop.)

Just thought of another one.

The announcer in DoDonPachi. There's something wrong with the way she talks that goes beyond accent / poor english.

I thought of a good one: the Star Wars pinball with the dot-matrix display.

When you press the Start button without a coin, it's supposed to be Jabba the Hut going "Pinball! Huuh huuh huuh!". It sounds nothing like him. Sounds more like they grabbed whatever tech guy they had in the office and gave him a microphone.

I wanna play Pac-Man (or Ms or Jr or) with the "munching" sound replaced by Fozzie Bear's "Wokka Wokka Wokka!"

If you won a match in Virtua Fighter, the word WINNER! would appear on the screen, but the voice over clearly says WINGER!

That is likely exactly what they did.

In Operation Wolf when you die..

"You have sustained a lethal injury, you are finished...........[long pause]........ here"

Annoying!

That B-17 bomber video brings back some memories. We had that when we were kids and I remember turning the machine on and off repeatedly for hours just to hear it talk. Back then it was simply amazing.
