game serial number discrepancy - where is the error?

I recently acquired a Williams game (I don't want to say the name for fear of being called a spammer LOL), and on the cab the number, as far as I can tell, reads "591727". However, on the heatsink inside, there is the number "591707". I wish I could simply say that I was reading the cabinet number wrong, but I really don't think that I am.

I guess I'm looking for the philosophy from those who might recall a little about the cabinet assy process back in the day: were the serial number stickers for the internal parts added once the assembler got the physical cabinet? Or were there various components lying on a table where someone could grab the wrong part with a different serial number sticker on it?

I know in the grand scheme of things, none of these details really matter. It's just something that I thought would be an interesting topic of discussion. I will update this thread with pics of the cabinet serial and the heatsink serial for you all to check out and judge for yourselves.

Cabinet serial number (if you shrink the image it definitely gets clearer that the number in question is a '2' on the cab, not a '0'):

There should be numbers on the boards too..what number is on there...Usually on williams the number on the cab should match the components..but i've seen a few components with different numbers..I don't think it was always exact ...maybe something tested bad during assembly so they threw in another part..but the best way to tell look around the cab..usually there is more than one spot where the serial number was placed (front of cab and inside)...I'll look at a few of my williams..i have a few NIB games so they are a good source to compare..

Boards weren't in the game when it came to be in my ownership. I looked around inside but have not yet found any other leads. :(

Check the bottom of the cab where all the dust and loose screws tend to fall...usually the stickers glue dried up and they fall off...you might get lucky and find one down there to compare to the cab and heat sink
